Sad but effective message, take a deep breath before looking at this: http://photoblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/03/15/6272978-one-unsatisfied-owner-poor-service-leads-lamborghini-driver-on-destructive-path Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, I've been in Qingdao last year for quite some time. Very nice city with some nice exotic cars. While I was there, the Lambo dealership was still under construction but I saw a black Gallardo on a truck one day, wonder if it was the same... Something simillar happend some years ago with a Mercedes S-class. The owner was for some reason not happy with the car and acted in the same way as the Lambo owner did. if I remember correct, the guy was then sued by Mercedes but I can't remember how it ended Martin
Seems pretty idiotic. "I'm mad at YOU, so I'm going to destroy MY OWN property." The owner was apparently the successful recipient of a brain transplant from a 4 month-old primate. What is amusing, is that this was not a rash or hasty decision, but it was planned. Good grief, the narcissism of some people. From the looks of it, it was poorly maintained anyway, look at how bad the paint was in the "before" pics.
That is the dumbest thing I have seen in a long long time. I don't view that and think- "gee Lamborghini must really be screwed up for someone to want to do this", I view that and think "the owner appears to be an unreasonable and probably legally insane person who probably was mad because the car wouldn't run when the gas ran out vs. any real issue"
I think you guys are lacking perspective. From the owners financial perspective, smashing the G-car is probably no different than us smashing a defective cell phone. Its no big deal, if he wants another he will just go buy one (though after his experience he will probably stick to Ferrari). The Gallardo is a just a mass produced car. Its not like its some one off piece of art. Anyone with a healthy checkbook can pick one up. Its not special.
What a complete nutter! It's his car and he can destroy it if he wants to. I hop he is unable to get a remedy! He certainly cant return it and claim breach of contract! When someone does this I struggle to have any sympathy with any problem that he has Paul xx
Nah. average cell phone, $100. G value in China, what, $200k USD? G equivalent value in cell phones, 1/2000. Is this person's net 2,000 times what our avg might be? Doubt it. Even if our avg net were 100k, that'd be equivalent to his being 200M. Not exactly scientific here, but trying to make a point. Most reasonable people wouldn't destroy their own property because they were mad at someone else, and only the mildly off kilter would damage ANYBODY's property. So what the hell could be going on in this person's mind to do something so stupid to a "mass produced" (ahem, so are Ferrari's) car? It isn't Bam Margera is it? Just because he might be able to afford to do it (which is speculative anyway) does not make it any less dumb. BTW, I'm not aware of heavily trafficed Kia forums. Low volume equals high interest. Further, if it's "no big deal", then this odd public display would never have taken place, and he would have simply traded in the car. But hey, there's no "story" in that. Well, unless you are trading in a Ferrari less than a year after purchasing it new. ooooohhhhhhhh
Sad. But the hardhats and lack of eye protection remind me of when I was working in Japan. The law may say need hardhat so they wear even if situation does not need hardhat but if law does not say safety glasses required noone uses. But they never bend the rules even if the rules are stupid.
IMO ineffective message! ....you want your message heard, set the car on fire and sent it through the front showroom window of the dealership! (after hours of course)
Well obviously the value of the car is worth less to him than the satisfaction and attention he gets from destroying it. I dont think that point is arguable. So it doesnt matter what his net worth is (and why couldnt it be $200m ?). Ultimately all the 'gasps' are because of the value of the car. If it was a $20 watch people would just laugh and forget about it 30 seconds later. However, value is subjective. I think its fairly normal for people to destroy non-refundable items that arent functioning correctly. They key is in what that items value is to the specific individual.
Well, put that way, I see your point. Not to pick this apart, but I will say that, the watch analogy may not be the best either. It has 1 function and it would be easy for that single function to be compromised by anything else not properly functioning. The car may be fully "functional" even if there are multiple things "wrong" with it. It still has utility, and value, at least to others, unlike a broken watch.

More information about this story. Of course, you never know if it is accurate but this is what is reported. http://www.chinacartimes.com/2011/03/15/qingdao-man-unhappy-with-his-lambo-destroys-it-on-national-consumer-day-with-sledgehammer-team/ Here's the video. I dont consider anything mass produced by robots 'special'. Special is reserved for things that are handmade by an individual based on their vision.
I find myself saying at least once a day that there is TOO much money in China. I suspect they owner took great joy in destroying the car and I would say that it is much better than advertising the car for sale and passing on the frustrations to some poor schmuck. This reminds me of another news story from last year or the year before, where a lady hired a bunch of bulls to tow her 7 series BMW through the streets of some big city here. Again as a protest of poor reliability and poor service. Cheers, Neil (in China)
Could be a used import but we don't know. The problem is poor maintenance & knowledge of servicing over there. I've heard of cracked S600 engine because someone poor water into the oil pipe thinking it's for radiator & when u start the car in winter.... Still, he's a madman to do this.
