I just bought a 2007 F430 Spider. I am looking for a clean navigation system solution. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I found the easiest portable/reversible solution for me that works in all my cars is my Iphone + silicon case (for friction) + tomtom apps (see pic)

How do you like the Kennwood system? I was looking at something like that (flip-out screen) for my 360. How is the navigation and Stereo quality?

Is the Kenwood system plug&play after you remove the original radio in a 360/430?

I am looking into this kind of swap and you will need a wiring adapter since the OEM connectors do not match the Kenwood's.......Steve

That looks nice Scott. Did you install the reverse camera??? Did you have to change anything else, or all speakers, amps, etc. worked fine? How about sound quality compared to stock radio? I have HiFi, by the way. Details would be appreciated :).

Hey Needspeed, I wouldn't touch the factory wiring either. I'm sure there're connectors available for the 430 (Crutchfield, etc), where you can make mini harness between the car's connector and Kenwood connector. Then you just snap the connector to the Kenwood and the car (plus antenna, etc) and that's it. And you can put the car back to stock if needed. Or at least you can sell it with the assurance stock wiring wasn't touched.

Yes, we did install the reverse camera... I have done this install quite a few times and the last 2 we did didnt have the bose option....I did an alpine system in one that had the bose system but we didnt use any of the bose speakers or amps... As far as an improvement in sq over the stock headunit I would have to say its hard to tell as the stock system is limited by speakers and amplification mostly. It is about having a real navi a real ipod a/v interface a semi functional bt phone interface the camera xm or sirius and the touch screen...And yes the harness adapter is a standard vw and the antenna adapter... The one tricky part of the install is the limited depth for the new unit... so depending on which radio you pick that can be fun...

So to do this without modifying the car's harness, one needs a VW adapter?

Hey Scott, could you please post exact part number/model of your Kenwood stereo and connector harnesses you bought? And where exactly did you mount the camera (above license plate or difusser; can't tell), and where did you get the signal for reverse? Or is it turned on some other way? And finally, did you have to do wire anything, or everything is taken care of by the stock connectors? Many thanks for sharing your experience, so others have an easier time doing the conversion.

That link doesn't work ('forbidden'), so could you post the part number please? I knew Crutchfield would carry something. Thx.

    Strange, it works for me?

I just typed in the model number on crutchfield's site. Still can't find the antenna adapter.

The cleanest solution is a TomTom IMHO. As the technology changes (and it does) it's easy to upgrade by buying a new unit. It also offers the very real benefit of being transportable from car to car (and from country to country if you do a lot of traveling) and hands down beats a hard wired installation IMHO.

I use TomTom's 930 unit. It combines GPS with inertial positioning (they call it EPT) and it therefore operates very nicely in so called "urban canyons" and tunnels etc. I've used this unit all over the world and it has yet to fail me. I never travel without it.

    My two cents worth.

ELP JC the deck is kvt-696 the nav module is kna-g610 the bluetooth is kca-bt300.. The camera is a boyo lp frame camera that is at the top of the lp.... The escort rear laser shifter is below. The reverse signal wire was tied in at the rear light as we already were running the other 2 cables to the front. As far as the harness adapters I dont have the crutchfield part numbers for them as use metra and I have already listed those numbers. If you use a 98 vw jetta as your car the harness and antenna adapter will work for your 430...

I use a portable nav unit, too (Garmin). It's small, cordless, inexpensive and works well. The few times a year I use nav in this car, this works fine.
