Does any one know of recent sales on BBIs to establish value on a original non restored straight car? I am a twenty year original owner(first title and original mso available) of a late 84. Car is still like the day I got it looking like new and it got everything going for it....factory papers(special color order) and all else properly federalized and in total European trim in appearance and it drives like no other with 17 inch rims( needs fresh new rubber since old is getting hard) trxs and original rims in storage and three exhausts available and lots of other parts never used. It was registered in CA when brand new after was brought over by plane from the factory. It starts as soon as you touch the key and it has very little miles. I am thinking of selling since all I do start it every few weeks and let it warm up and change all fluids every year.....lots of work and I do not drive the car ,I am getting older and I do not care for the attention it gets. I thought of selling a couple of years ago but the values dropped again so I never bothered. What is reality now here and in Europe? I will not sell the car to a broker and such but only to someone that wants a real one that is original and it is for themselves........twenty years with me ....it will go to a home it will deserve. Mario
A 1984 BBi with I think 5 or 6k miles in #2 condition sold for 88k including buyer's fee at RM in January 2011. Here is one point of reference for your research.
the prices in the usa are significantly lower than in europe, with the ultimate irony being that they are usually of better quality!
It took just over a year but finally sold our psycho clean and tidy California from new BBi. The car was a unique color called Rosso Metallic but that does not even hint at the interesting transient shade of "off-red" the car was painted in. The car had low mileage, zero paint or interior work. Still had plastic on the sills and every moment of the car's life from before even before being assembled to the present documented by all original notes, records, log-book, correspondences, service bills etc... It was a California from new BAR sticker car and sold new through an authorized Ferrari dealer with Factory Warranty (No idea how the original owner pulled that one off!) Anyway, of the 100+ BB/BBi's to go through our hands, this was about as darn nice as they ever get. Asking price was reduced a few times over the past 12 months and last quoted asking price was $119,000. Hope that helps. Bill
proves my point. best place to buy a boxer is in the usa now. the prices in europe are at least 50% higher
Bill, I saw that car at your place several times, I thought it was an outstanding color. Did it stay in Ca? Mario, I would think your car would fetch a nice price relative to the market, but it might serve you well to market it in Europe for better results.
Car was on a MSO until I got it from the importer. I was allowed to keep it for a souvenit with the paperwork on the car and I am also the first title owner here in the US The car was ordered at the factory from a California dealer for the importer. I think at thirty years of age the car will qualify to go back to Europe with out paying the tax that can run up to 19 % in some places....maybe this is the big effect on being so much less here I wonder the differences from country to country in tax to import back.... I was just looking at some asking prizes that if I convert to us dollars is almost two hundred ....wow the difference is huge than here.....shipping over is not bad at all and one gets to drive the car with out getting tickets! I wonder how many of these are left in the US also? I better look at this real good. Thanks Mario
Hi Mario. The market for boxers is definitely much stronger in Europe than the US. The UK is a bit skewed value wise, being a country of RHD like Ireland. LHD cars that come up for sale in the UK are typically sold into mainland Europe, a reversal of previous years, when the mainland Europe market was depressed, many UK buyers sourced LHD cars in Europe and imported them to the UK, as in the 90's and early 00's the UK market in exotica was very strong. Exchange rates play a major part in this market shift, I bought a 72 Pantera in California two years ago, and even after shipping and import duties, it was still a bargain because I got almost $1.50 for my Euro! Although the rate is lower now for a European buyer, combined with the low prices in the US, it still makes sense for a European buyer to look at the US for a car such as the Boxer. Typically, prices in Europe start at about 90 to 100k Euro for a good LHD car with reasonable mileage, and rise to 150k Euro for excellent cars. On the duty, that varies from country to country, even at 30 years old, the car may still be liable to VAT(value added tax),which is a sales tax imposed on most goods except food, unless it was originally sold new in the European Union, in which case VAT would have been charged at the time, and it cannot be charged twice. Check out the following two sites, they are popular with European buyers, to get an idea of prices. Steve http://www.mobile.de/home/index.html http://www.autoscout24.eu/
Thank you so much! What a difference! 150k in euros is 200k plus in us dollars today.... I wonder if I should ship the car there or if I could still sell to a buyer there and have them transport the car. I also need to find out how valuable and assisting to the sale is to have the car certified by the factory in originality if this program is still on. Mario
do not expect too much overhere... asking prices have nothing to do with real sale prices nobody is really paying these prices some people dream of... that`s why most of the boxers have been offered for a year or two (or three) now without moving (same with most of the 330GTs, Dinos, 250GTEs, 330GTCs...)
Thank you a good point. I live in Greece part of every year and I am thinking if I shipped the car to Bremen or Belgium would I have to pay taxes to import back? I do not think there was vat paid when the car was picked up new ,spun up 7500 miles and brought to the States weeks after it was build. At least it would be a lot more fun to have the car there if I keep it since I can drive in Europe and enjoy the car a lot more. Mario
Greece is in EEC, and I guess that your car has already its Greek taxes paid ? If they are, keep all the records of its Greek registration. Yoiu won't have to pay again taxes in any other EEC country. Including so, if you come back to Greece with it.
Just to come back to the topic, here an interresting link, not a BB512, nore a 512i but however interresting : http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm?SaleCode=AM11&CarID=r204&Currency=USD Any idea why such a price ? Car really paid ?
Mario Like Michael says above, asking prices do not reflect actual sale prices. I am unsure what sale prices are in Europe for LHD cars, but in the UK, there has been a steep rise in asking prices for RHD cars. They are not selling however. I have been thinking of buying a Boxer again(third time!!!) and the price agreed if I was to buy was over 20% less than the asking price. Also, you do need to establish what taxes, if any, were paid in Europe when the car was new. VAT will be charged on importation, but only if it was not paid previously. Along with that, each European member state has it's own system of duties charged on vehicles, new and used. Ireland charges Vehicle Reg. Tax at rates varying from 12.5% to 38% of the vehicles value in the Irish market. Vehicles over 30 years qualify for a flat charge of 250 But that is Ireland only. You will need to contact the authorities in the country you wish to bring the car to, and establish what applies there.
2 friends of mine sell their Euro 365GT4BB. Red-black cars. EEC taxes paid. One is quite Concours cond. : 120.000 The othe one is very nice : 110.000 . Nobody. My BB that just went through a 32.000 restoration : 115.000
The early cars command strong respect among the cognescenti....I was offered the FIRST 1976 5.0L 512BB and I sure wish I had been able to purchase it. The banks all yawned.........then laughed.
Call me cynical, I am not "buying" that price. I guess it is as possible that the car sold for that as it is possible that no shill bidding goes on at eBay... I certainly wouldn't use that price as an indicator of the market for 365's or any other Boxer. I wish.
It's an opinion, indeed, but 2 other "different" indicators : - 2 Dino 246 GT's did 160,000 + @ 19% taxes during Retromobile's auctions - 1 ESpada for 72,000 + 19% taxes... And down there, in Europe Daytona's have climbed to 220/250,000.
Well, I agree that "Auction Frenzy" and sitting on a corner car lot are not the same thing! Who knows???
I looked at some info on the net almost two years ago when they started going up and I can not find the info now.....it was auctions in Italy and an injected car did big money and it had been certified by the factory in Italy....does anyone know about that and which auction do the best in Europe with an original certified car? I think here the dollar will stay weak for a very long time and the Euro even though the economy over there is worse than here after dropped some not long ago is back at over 1.4 to the dollar again...... I think a great car will never fetch the money here unless they start going up again fast and speculators get in the market as with everything else. I paid more for this car back in 91 than is worth today and a very short time prior they were worth 300,000 in the late eighties.....a dino then never got to be worth what a boxer was and it was always an older car than the Boxer..... For the ones that asked this car is all white original paint and it has been posted in this forum in other threads with photos before ........ I need to retrieve them out of a broken laptop now or better yet take more fresh ones... Newman loved this color on a Boxer and he posted a photo of my car on a thread talking about what is the best color on Boxers here. Interior is a very tasteful crema/Rosso with red carpets. Dash is black. When I was looking for a good one back then you could not pay me to have a white one plus everyone told me the white ones are softer in value......amazing now to be the other way around. Reason I got mine in white was because I loved it when I laid eyes on it The added bonus in a white late 84 is with the air on can be comfy in any hot weather since the air is better on late cars and white helps a lot Mario
Hi Mario, I wonder if I've not pics of your super BB on my other PC... As regards your observation about air con., mine runs perfect, and it's only a 1980. If you need further infos about sales... maybe this link could be useful : http://www.classicdriver.fr/fr/service/6050.asp If you do need any translation, pls do not hesitate.
