here's a pic. I know in some cars when you turn on the recirculated air button that automatically turns the compressor on, but in this case i'm really stumped.

The "Stop" button needs to be in the "out" position. If pushed in, as the name "Stop" implies, the A/C compressor is disengaged. The button also needs to be "out" in order to operate the heating.

Thank you this makes sense! Although that means if I'm putting the heater on the compressor is running? That seems kinda odd. Seriously am I the first person who was confused by this, or just the first person to admit it? ;)

It's automatic climate control. The computer decides if you need AC or heat based on the internal cabin temperature and the degree setting you choose. The fan blows at whatever setting you set it to.

Yes, I think you're the first! But, I myself have thought the AC was malfunctioning once. A valet pushed the OFF button and I didn't notice it. I got in the car and the AC wasn't working. It took a while for me to see the button was in the wrong position after fiddling with all the dials and thinking the AC was broke.

rmani - That's an Italian car. Of course the owners manual is in Italian too :) I even speak Italian with my car... ;)

Here you can download the owners manual in English language: http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/Manuals_Owners.htm

Go to this site and download a multi-lingual owners manual for the car and it should explain it all. I have never seen an all-Italian 360 owners manual. Must be an early one, and the earliest I have is for 2000. All the ones I have seen, including the US manuals, are multi-lingual. Even the workshop manual is multi-lingual.

I'd say the latter, because the manual (at least in the 430) is wrong :). Manual states the 'stop' button is just for the A/C compressor, but that's not the case. Like somebody else mentioned, the heater doesn't work with the button pushed. And yes, the damn compressor engages even with the heater, which SUCKS, but that's not different than most cars. And finally, if the 2 other knobs are in 'auto', both the vents and fan are adjusted automatically. Have a great weekend.

On the air conditioning/climate control, if at initial start, the temperature is less than 59 deg F/15 C, the compressor will not engage and only the heater will be operating. If above that temp, you will get a flow of cold air from the compressor until heated air is available for mixing.

Another little subtlety of Ferrari climate control systems.

I have to admit I was a little stumped when I first moved from a 599 to a 430Scud. The buttons are totally different. IN was OFF OUT was ON. Or was it visa versa? All i know is that in my mind..... almost every button worked completely opposite. From the way I thought it should go. I remember having to re read that section of the manual more than once before I got used to it. Given one in Italian I probably would have been reduced to opening and closing the windows!
