    Hey everyone,
I decided to start up my car this weekend (its been stored for about 4 months in my garage) and the RPM gauge went nuts. The tachometer needle was bouncing on its own. The engine was running fine, but at idle, the tach meter was dancing on its own. As I gave some throttle, the RPM gauge was still behaving erratically.

I am wondering what caused this. also I might want to add, that 4 months ago, i accidently spilled over some engine oil while adding some oil to the oil reservoir. Could some of that oil which spilt over the engine messed up my electrical wiring?

    any thoughts?

    thanks

I'm thinking maybe casued by a low battery?

low battery, hmm.. that could be possible. The battery was dead, and I had only boosted it to start it. I will put a charger on it and see how it runs with a recharged battery. Thanks

My RPM gauge bounces around when I first start the engine (on my Mondial t) if I've not used the car for a while. It always goes OK after a mile or two of driving.

Flat battery should be ok once driven for an hour.

...... If it's still capable of taking a charge! Not if too far gone!

A lot of batteries these days just seem to die. In the good old days you had some warning eg slow starter motor or lights that would go dim at slow revs etc. The last few batteries I have had have all just died, no warning 2.5 years gone.

The guages are electronic and low voltage can cause other weird issues around the car.

Something similar happened (tach was dead with the other guages working) when I took my Zo6 for a drive after 2 years sitting and just a minimal recharge before putting the battery back in. Worked perfectly after the 1st drive.

oh it turns out it was the battery. I put the battery on a charger and the next day it was fine.

    thanks everyone
