I thought this topic deserved its own thread.

I learned about Paleo in my "Damn you Sugar" thread. Thanks!

Anyway, do your own research as I am not qualified to give advice yet but it works.

14 lbs lost in 5 weeks. Now, I'm a fat bastard so 14 lbs is easier for me (296 today from 310).

My goal is to be down below 290 before my trip to Lisbon which is in two weeks. I'm sure my rate of loss will slow but I think I can make my goal.

Paleo is not a one time diet. It is a way of life and I'll be straight up with you, it is hard to stick to if you are used to eating sugars and breads like I am (can't say was yet as I still feel the addiction).

The fittest people in my gym swear by it. Unfortunately, to cut out carbs for me is next to impossible. I do try my hardest, however, to cut them out during the week - lots of nuts, cheese, high-fat foods, proteins, etc.

Congrats on your weight loss and best of luck going forward!

I eat paleo most of the time, although I'm not anal about it. It just makes sense, and especially taking into the fact that your rarely have to exercise portion control, makes sense for me.

All of the "diets" I've tried in the past (I gain weight easily) have compromised my performance in the gym and at work, but not paleo. That said, it isn't a diet as much as a total lifestyle change.

The paleo rule of thumb: if it comes from the outer ring of the supermarket, you can eat it. Produce, fresh meat, fruit, cheese, milk, eggs, etc.

As mentioned above, the two most elite performers I know eat paleo.

Hey, good for you GT! Awesome, and stick to it.

    Basically:

    - If you can hunt it, forage it, pick it, or grow it...eat it. (except poisonous stuff!)

    - Meat, eggs, fruit, veggies...that's it!

    - No starch or grains (It's NOT elimination of Carbs. Fruits and veggies are Carbs)

    - No milk or dairy. Whey protein is dairy too.

    - Don't be scared of fat.

    - Less food more often.

    - Eat some raw food once a day.

    - It is not as hard as you think.

    - Enjoy a piece of cheesecake, some cheese, and popcorn once in a while. (Oh, Bourbon too!)

So, isn't this just post-induction Atkins with a cool new name? Later-stage Atkins allows fruits and veggies.

Yep, except I'm not real hot on dairy, unless it's in coffee. I have been doing this for a long time, and have always had great results.

Calorie counters drive me insane. Your 100 cal Snak-Pak sucks; try some real food. It's not how many calories, it's the actual foods people are eating that matters.

true paleo does not allow for milk or cheese.

I use a variety of paleo where i do eat cheese and fatty meats, i just really try to keep the carbs down. Thats the number one goal for my body composition right now. Another thing of note is paleo isn't necessarily low carb. There are carbs in fruits and veggies, it's just a lot harder to overeat on these types of things. They're also more complex carbs which break down slower than faster carbs like white rice, bread, and pasta.

I still have a good cheat meal every now and then though, I Need it to keep me sane.

It is starch and grains you want to avoid.

True, veggies and fruit are carbs but that isn't the point. It's what damage those carbs do and what havoc they wreak on the small intestine getting absorbed into the system.

All of this info is in the Paleo Solution.
