yes, but quite a few are UK imports. The question is the number of Aus-delivered glass cars. Carl has posted the details before I think.

Obviously the aussie ones are far superior. All the good ones have been rebuilt and have the same HP as the euro cars now, and with MG's sump baffle, oil surge is a thing of the past.

    I love my car :)

    p.s....i have no bias

It's either a dry sump or not. Bit like it's either an Aussie car or not. ;) Mines a dry sump yours isn't. Yours is an Aussie car mine isn't, we'll call it one each on that one. :D

    Just sayin'.....

No, actually, the question was how many glass 308's.

(The sign states 10 only in total).

Seems like there were quite a few.

The often quoted figure is 712 from memory; but there are supposedly more glass 308's than that.

I think the official factory production number is 808 Vetro cars made, unofficially 712 seems to the figure most often recalled. 87 RHD cars also seem to be the unnofficial number, I'm not sure if this is drysump and wetsump, or just drysump. Certainly more than ten RHD cars were made.

    FFS FF says AGAIN...

    1) Because they hold more oil which means, by comparison, cleaner internals and longer intervals between top ups and less degradation of oil quality between changes.

    2) Because dry sump scavenge pumps reduce crankcase pressure, which makes power.

    3) Because the oil runs cooler (more cooling surfaces with tank/lines etc).

    4) Because the oil won't surge. Even with a Gleggy sump baffle, you can still get surge, but nothing like as readily as standard.

    5) Because the oil cooler and lines are no longer under hi pressure, and therefore less risk of failure/leaks/engine bay fire.

    6) Because the vapour separator no longer needed, which is a weakness and service expense on wet sump cars.

    7) Because, by default, if it has a dry sump, it also came from the factory with the larger diameter and better designed exhaust manifolds, which make more power. (Of course, these can be fitted to aussie cars too)

    8) Because it's pretty ;)

In order of RHD desirability for true 308 enthusiasts (and speed)...

    1) UK/Jap/HK/Sing F/glass (dry sump)

    2) UK/Jap/HK/Sing Steel body GTB carb (dry sump)

    3) Aussie F/Glass (wet sump)

See Moretts, I didn't cheat, I was faster because of these two standard features on a UK dry sump car, so don't stress mate. ;)

BTW, I look forward to meeting you one day A 26 (pity it wasn't 27) boy. Pass on my regards to FF, he certainly built a good car. :D

Indeed and likewise, I'm skyping him now and he says hi back!

    he also adds, that

    "
    >>>
    9) By default, the dry sump car came with better spec camshafts, (which make more power) and despite what carl888 might say, ignore him, he's WRONG (on many levels!). "

Yes, if the oil level is on or even near min, it will surge on ~90 degree left hand corners, even with 6.5" wheels fitted with XWX tyres.

if you add grip, it'll surge more often, potentially damaging (think winton sweeper).
