The first 200K is refundable. The second 200K is due when the car is one year from production. That is the date when your car is considered "locked in" and then both deposits are non refundable.

Thus, when you are within one year your 400K is Porsche's money. Period.

    :)

sounds like a surefire way to get all the cars in the hands of speculators

    how so?

50% deposit held for over a year? I'd be expecting a "return on investment" greater than just a shiny new sports car (you know, like selling the shiny sports car to some "greater fool")

OK, I see what you're saying.

But would you rather require less than $200K deposit? By the way, you cannot sell the car, or assign the contract, to another party. There are other fail safes as well. My dealer has a well crafted agreement you must sign which is not that unlike a contract to build a house as every phase triggers a duty by seller and buyer.

Car is going to be above $800K. Will know more exact price soon. But that price is going to give people pause to actually pull the trigger.

is the agreement with your dealer or PCNA? I can see them enforcing the contract assignment but once the car is delivered and titled in your name, what's stopping you? Ferrari did the lease with the F50, which worked reasonably well at keeping speculators at bay.

I think $200k is reasonable :)eek:), the car will be somewhere around $845k from what I've seen and 20% is somewhat common. $400k seems over the top, to me. especially one year (or more) from delivery.

My dealer has two agreements, one from Porsche and one from the dealer.

Do you think this car's FMV is going to go over MSRP? I'm not so sure. That's Enzo territory. Dealer is expecting me on Wednesday to sign and pay deposit.

    congrats! I think

I think it will go over MSRP initially. long term, probably not. that's more or less what the CGT did (not sure if the 959 is a worthwhile comparison, price trend-wise)

I am a little baffled by the price. It's twice the MRSP of the Carrera GT and they are making almost as much as they did CGT's (1200 cars) which had to have production stopped because the last ones werent selling. Now i know this is 2011/2012 and China, Russia, Brazil, S Korea, Middle East are much bigger players now so maybe Porsche is counting on these guys step in...

So is there an argument for making the first deposit, then waiting to see what happens?

If this car is built with a carbon tub and a detuned race car engine it will be hugely expensive to build and thus the million dollar price tag. The Turbo S was thrown in to sweeten the deal when buyers balked at the initial price point. Smart move by Porsche considering they make 4 times the normal 997 profit for a Turbo version sale.
It also begs the question why bother with this project at all. Instead go right ahead at a much lower investment for buyers with the same platform planned for the next generation Gallardo and R8. Multiple platforms without interchangeable parts is no longer cost effective these days in many ways. Porsche is already doing the engineering for the new Gallardo and R8 so it would be a perfect fit. Not some fantasy targa configuration car based on a defunct race car program...

The 911 Turbo isnt part of the deal at $800k as i understand. And the CGT also has a detuned race car engine with a carbon tub.

Correct the 800k is just for the 918 but Porsche was going to charge 1M for the car and then backed off. With the Turbo S offer they still get a lot of the 1M they wanted but now as a package deal. Those numbers make the new Lamborghini (with lots of carbon content) look like a bargain; including it's much quicker delivery schedule.
You would have to really like that Porsche crest on the nose...

Yes, I am getting old (I bought a S Class) and yes after 250 (most of them with plenty of mods) cars I have had my share of fun, and yes I think this car is amazing, but I have to ask myself why. If I owned a track, a runway, my own highway, yes then it would be great to own, as would many other high priced cars. Sadly I do not and where I have time to drive (between, my companies, my twins, and my books, I have very little of it left) I can barely get past 60 unless I go out at sunrise on a weekend. I guess I have gotten over the gotta have the newest thing, and around here you are not going to hand the keys to a Ferrari, or a Lambo, or this car to the 20 year old valet, I did that once got a cab ride home and a bent rim and blown tire. I guess the passion I once had for these cars has pretty much gone away replaced with something far more important, to me at least.

It would not matter if it was prepay in full when ordered...they still will sell out the production run.

It's going to be a tough choice in 2013. The new super McLaren will surely be for sale with a higher price tag. I would assume that the new McLaren will be built to keep the "Fastest Car in the World" title for some time. If the new McLaren's price tag is in the ballpark of $1M then the choice is going to get interesting.

hmm...for 1M, i'd go the Jim Glickenhaus route. take one of my all time fave cars, the awesome CGT, and do a P4/5C type customization. that means every part is swapped out for high end race parts/material...race quality dampers, control arms refabricated in exotic alloys...engine internals replaced with race/exotic alloys. revised aero/body design. Porsche did the hard part/and expensive part, by making the CGT street legal in regards to crash testing etc...now all that's left is to let it live the life it was meant to before the race car was aborted.

    how's 2,700lbs wet, 750+ hp @ 10,000 rpm sound:)

If only Jim G was to sell carbon bodyworks P4/5 to be fitted on our F430s...

I know someone who did take the 918 plunge and I can't wait to see it.

How many suckers, I mean cars do they intend to make? Car looks great but I think only die hard, Porsche money bag types will go for it. A friend who was lined up to buy decided to bail after hearing about this. Thought it was just too much money for a Porsche, especially with having to lay out the $400K.
