Anyone have their delivery date?
im lucky to have one of the first cars, but still dont know delivery date yet,ive been told of a build date in june, but because its hand built taking approx 20 days even the dealer has to be cautious which is understandable
I have to say quite honestly: I don't believe it, but I am suspending my disbelief till they come out with the official times in May. Then, i will try to puzzle it out how this is possible.
krzys,if chris says they have broken it,they have broken it,i know its hard to believe, but going back to todays article in autoexpress no-one has their type of engineers, and he isnt a pr guy or journalist,im hoping he might be there at dunsfold in april so i will ask him directly and give him the option to do a steve sutcliffe, wish me luck
I'm sure he is telling the truth, but I just think they may have disqualified the Atom since that is not really a viable road car. p.s. Ferrari certainly does have those types of engineers, as would any manufacturer involved in F1. The real difference is that McLaren was on a mission to actually use them in the development of this car.
IIRC when TG ran the Zonda R, they briefly put it on the top of the board (and the Atom was right underneath). Jezza then immediately took it down because it was not "road legal." So I'm pretty sure "road legal" is the rubric for getting on the board - although a decent argument could be made that although the Atom is "road legal" it is hardly in the same class of usability as something more "normal" like a 458 or a 12C...
I found this video recently. It is a comparison of the speedos for the F1 and the 12C during full acceleration from 160kph to 300+! The F1 footage is taken from a top speed run by Autocar a number of years ago. The 12C footage is taken from McLaren's own press video. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LANw47XMr08[/ame]
Is Track mode actually the quickest setting for driving on track? We could have developed an ESP mode called track that was overly restrictive, so to set a real lap time youd have to switch it off, but thats just lazy. Weve been under the record at the Top Gear test track and set a time at the Nordschleife, all with track mode engaged. If you want to do a lap of drifting though, youll have to turn it all off. Read more: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/265957/chris_goodwin_qa.html#ixzz1HSpGXWwZ -My read is that the car should set a new record at the Top Gear track but I also assume that Mr. Stig needs to be behind the wheel with cameras rolling for it to be on the time board. My bet is that the McLaren will set a new benchmark for all roadcars and crush the competition in it's catagory.
It is also comparing a record run vs. a preproduction car. Amazing! A comparison of the acceleration of the new Mclaren MP4 12C with the old legendary Mclaren F1. The Mp4-12C is driven by Jenson Button. The F1 is XP5 on its record run at ehra lessein, driven by Andy Wallace.(taken from my other vid) From the vid: MP4 -12C 0-100mph (160kmh) 6.0s. 0-150mph (240kmh) 13.8s 0-186mph (300kmh) 25.1s the F1 is slightly faster than the 12C up to 240kmh, and then pulls away from 270kmh. At 330kmh, the 12C is only doing 305kmh. N.B Car speedos often overestimate the speed, whereas the GPS on the F1 is guiness certified accurate. Used edge detection effects to discover the speed displayed on the F1's GPS. The last digit changes too quickly to be resolved, so when it says 270 the F1 is actually doing 27x kmh.
I've seen those. But on my screen they don't give me a clear indication how the paint will look in person, in direct light. I don't see the metal flake working in those pics. If I squint, I get a bit red. But, given what I've seen so far, I'm afraid that Red+Black will equal Brown. Like this: Image Unavailable, Please Login
See the e-mail thread with the reply from the factory. The pictures posted above are of a car at the factory and are shot with the car in direct sunlight. It doesn't look anything like the paint you posted. The rest are e-mail responses from the BH Dealer and the factory rep. For more evidence, you might have to go see a car in person. Can you identify the color of the car in these photos? Folks think its Fire Black (and I agree I can fairly clearly see the bronze metal flake), but theres enough controversy that I thought maybe you could put the question to rest? Thanks much! I don't think your pictures look brown at all, by the way, the color is clearly a very dark blood red with black highlights...but hey that's MHO. Not sure these pictures have anything to do with the 12 C's fire black paint.
I'm not doubting that the pictures you referred me to are of the 12C in fire black, if that is why you suggest I look at the emails. I believe that the pics are of a car in fire black. I just don't think they are great at showing the flake. Most Nero Daytona 458 pics will look pretty close to plain black, but every so often one will see a pic that really shows the metal flake and the effect it has on the car. The pic I posted is a black base with red metal flake. It isn't going to be exactly like the 12C's fire black. The 12C may have less red or less metallic flake, but looking at the following hi-res pic, which I think shows the flake better-- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/MP4-12C/LGP_4519_rt.jpg the 12C's color might be at risk of looking somewhat brown in direct sun. As far as my example clearly being red and black...I think if one is patient and tries to suss out the base components, one will see red. But to me, the gestalt is brownish. As you say, I won't know until I see the car. I'm just thinking out loud.
For secondary confirmation I asked McLaren Automotive's Press Officer about a month ago when those pics first appeared on the web if PP11 was Fire Black and he confirmed for me that it was, but mentioned these pics don't show the true depth and quality of the paint color. There are a few more pics of PP11 at the Silverstone unveiling of the 12C GT3 in this photo album shared by SCD on PistonHeads: http://supercardriver.zenfolio.com/p986029998/h2e60205d#h2e60205d See photos #19 & #23 through #27. These are great. Thanks. There's a close up that shows the red flakes in the sun. I love this color and have mine spec'd in fire black. I do see a slight hint of bronze but it doesn't appear to be the dominant color and I'm OK with that. It's always a risk getting a color you can't see on an actual car in person, so I get the concern. Sombaco, I was only trying to help, not in any way minimizing your concerns. I like the contrasting dash, is it saddle or tan?
Is this "Volcano Red"? I kinda like it, though I think it would look better with the lightweight stealth wheels. Also, won't be as common as some other colors? Opinions? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZg_R33Mnqo[/ame]
I think Volcano Red would look great if everything else is blacked out and with all carbon options. Otherwise, it might be bit weak. Either way, I think both of the Orange colours have more impact and, besides, orange is Macca's traditional colour.
No - that was the presentation model in Volcano Orange behind Ron. I think if you like Volcano Orange but would prefer a Red car that Volcano Red would not disappoint. Those looking for something more like Ferrari's traditional Rosso Corsa are SOL though. >8^) ER
Actually I like it because it's not like a Ferrari red. It looks more like a candy red, and I agree with the poster who said that blacked out and carbon on it would be nice.
