David E. Davis, one of the world's most recognized automotive journalists, passed today Rest In Peace, and Godspeed
Wow; I just recently read the referenced Automobile column... He lived his life and made his mark; we should all aspire to the same. RIP.
Wow, what a shock. This really is a tough news announcement for me. We met David E. Davis at the "Ferraris On The Vine" event last year in Williamsburg, VA. What a great guy. Rest In Peace. Here are some pictures from that weekend in May 2010: (In the first pic, David is posing with my wife,) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
So sad to hear. RIP I was luckily able to hear him speak last year at the Ferraris on the Vine, he had some incredible stories. Here is a picture of him and Dan Gurney speaking at the event. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just saw him at Amelia Island two weeks ago. Looked older than i thought he would but not sick. Sorry to hear. R.I.P.
He was a first class guy who really did it his own way, Creating Automobile, which is still the best of the monthly buff books, in a highly crowded market was ballsy. I heard him speak at a conference a few years ago,and enjoyed his stories of perseverence. A highly admirable, original character. He certainly left his mark, and will be missed.
RIP David E. Davis "I firmly believe that anyone, who is worth anything at all, should own a 12 cylinder car before they die. Because there is nothing else like it"
Here is David E. Davis, Jr. doing what he did best - test driving a car. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS922iFsdCU[/ame]
Wow... I just assumed he was immortal. A legend in the industry. R.I.P. and thank you for all the great stories.
DED got me caught on car magazines when I was 13 years old. I've had a subscription to Automobile since 1990! Was surprised that he ever left it (to go back to C&D, to boot!) but I still love the main group that stayed behind, especially Lindamood (Jennings, now), Cumberford, and Kitman. RIP
Just lost a piece of my childhood there somehow. I've been reading D.E.D most of my life. Along with Henry Manney and Peter Egan he was in large part responsible for my love of sports cars. Got to hear him talk at Lime Rock years ago. He will be sorely missed. PS: Subscribed to Automobile from Issue # 1.
There has never been and never will be anyone like D.E.D. Thanks for the memories. A true car guy. You just gotta love that. May the horse be with you, sir.
