Wow; I just recently read the referenced Automobile column...

He lived his life and made his mark; we should all aspire to the same.

    RIP.

He'll certainly be missed. I've been reading his work since before I could drive.

    So sad to hear. RIP
I was luckily able to hear him speak last year at the Ferraris on the Vine, he had some incredible stories. Here is a picture of him and Dan Gurney speaking at the event.

He was a first class guy who really did it his own way, Creating Automobile, which is still the best of the monthly buff books, in a highly crowded market was ballsy. I heard him speak at a conference a few years ago,and enjoyed his stories of perseverence.

A highly admirable, original character. He certainly left his mark, and will be missed.

DED got me caught on car magazines when I was 13 years old. I've had a subscription to Automobile since 1990! Was surprised that he ever left it (to go back to C&D, to boot!) but I still love the main group that stayed behind, especially Lindamood (Jennings, now), Cumberford, and Kitman.

    RIP

Just lost a piece of my childhood there somehow. I've been reading D.E.D most of my life. Along with Henry Manney and Peter Egan he was in large part responsible for my love of sports cars.
Got to hear him talk at Lime Rock years ago. He will be sorely missed.

PS: Subscribed to Automobile from Issue # 1.

There has never been and never will be anyone like D.E.D.

    Thanks for the memories.

A true car guy. You just gotta love that.

May the horse be with you, sir.
