Its always tough to tell what effect an individual variant makes when so many parameters are being changed but I think that there is potential for the flap/flap flaps.

Somehow I cannot fathom Button not figuring out eary on that using both will get the job done.
Perhaps he was relying on the wing to do it all.
Remember if Massa is doing his job and staying on Button next lap its Buttons turn in the barrel.

    It IS a bit contrived.
I say limit Aero so that big fat slipstreamable holes are punched in the air and limit brakes for ultralong brake zones.
    Zero blocking moves.
The allowable block has done its part to ruin F1.
If everyone has KERS its a non-issue.

Word is that the overtaking group working on 2013 specs wants to bring back shaped bottoms (no jokes please) and even smaller wings to facilitate passing.

Fully active aero implies more than rear wing deployment. Ideally, the cars would be as smooth as possible under straight line acceleration meaning not only would the rear wing lighten it's down-force, but the little fairings and winglets here and there would become flush with the body as well as the front wing becoming a virtually flat piece. Under braking and/or as steering angle is increased, all of the wings and fairings would deploy on one or both sides to a certain degree as to allow the quickest most stable speed through each corner. Little bits of aero would be moving on the car at all times... That's the future.

In regards to Button I wasn't implying that he didn't possibly know both would get the job done, but if you watched the onboard telemetry in the DRS zone he was for the most part using the DRS only while Massa was full bore on his KERS that he had saved, only when both icons glowed did Button finally blow by.

I will still watch F1 (until it just becomes another spec series) but you are right it is BS and a farce of what F1 stands for.

    I believe you.
Which leads to what was Button thinking ?
Surely this is/was part of sim training.

That I cannot answer, I can only think of two things. 1) He had a problem (though we heard nothing of a problem all weekend) 2) Save tires? I really can't say why he wouldn't

Disagree. [And they already use standard pump gas btw].

Electronics & paddle shifters etc represent technology at it's finest - Precisely what F1 is all about.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Agreed.
If you want the basics there are plenty of other formulae.
