Autosport article today where RedBull's head man more or less thumbs his nose at the Macca driver,

Horner has said he is unmoved by Hamilton's stance - and thinks that, if that was the case, then Red Bull Racing should have extra credit for beating bigger teams.

    Horner's comment,

"I don't know in what context he said that, but for just a drinks company we've beaten an engineering company with the resources that McLaren has had for the last couple of years," said Horner. "So, I am not sure what context he said it. We are much more than just a drinks company."

I give him points for not mentioning Ferrari like Lew-Ham did, and most fans know RedBull is much more. I guess there aren't any RedBull fans around here that take issue with someone belittling their accomplishments, Horner does it for ya,

    Another Horner quote,

"Ultimately it is down to what you do on the track. We have won 15 grands prix in the last two years, and two world championships, a constructors' and a drivers', and that has been the strongest performance in the pitlane. We are looking to build on that this year."

    Good on ya mate !

A lot of those drivers are themselves their worst enemies. With stupid comments like that demeaning the competition shows poor character at best, and opened himself for negative comments. Well deserved in my book.

And pointing out the constructor champion is just 'a drink company' should make it even more embarrassing for the 'heritage' companies to be beaten by a 'nobody'. Typical behavior of a sore loser. And looks like that pathetic drink company will kick their a$$es even harder this season, if today's qualifying was any indication. They better stop complaining and put all that heritage to work :).

The only thing more foolish than this sort of prerace posturing is taking it seriously.
If I were a team owner this is exactly the sort of stuff I'd expected a motivated driver to be saying.

BTW If you don't like this sort of thing you'll have to go back to the sixties and blame Ali. At least Lewis isn't rhyming ;)

Going back to the 60's would be cool !

But, back in the present time, Lew-Ham has put the "drinks company" on notice to "EXPECT THE RACE OF YOUR LIFE" hows that for pre-race posturing ! Ol Lew specialises in posturing it would seem, he's forgetting about a few other folks right behind him though.

Pre race hype pure and simple. Trying to psyche out both the opposition and himself.
Enjoy it for what it is and don't read too much into it.

What I remember of the sixties is cool. ;)

Agreed....let's burn him at the stake. Better yet, let's drown him in Red Bull.

What a ridiculous concept, a driver who is being competitive and aggressively going after his opponents. The nerve.

I guess we deserve our politically correct spoon fed
sound bites that most athletes, movie stars, and politicians give. Because if they say anything that even resembles a controvesial statement there are throngs of haters lined up to pounce.
The thing is all the drivers at least think this way.
Some come out and say it.
Most comments go under the radar since no-one cares about their statements; They are not newsworthy.
Hamilton is like a lightning rod for the press and the haters that wait for any kind of real or even PERCIEVED blunder.
None of his comments are radical unless you want them to be.

Did you watch the race on Sunday?

Lewis took a dog of a car (if you look at recent pre-season testing data) helped his team turn-it-around in record time....and turned in a fantastic 2nd place.

Red Bull had the fastest cars and still couldn't lock-up 1st and 2nd place.... because of the talent of the driver we are featuring in this thread. I'd say Lewis Hamilton earned his pay this week and deserves his own thread on F-chat celebrating his skills that he's shown so far in the start of the 2011 season. Not only driving, but helping to get his car and team sorted out in record time.

My girlfriends care about who said what about who? Or did you hear what so-and-so said the other day about this or that... its chick gossip! and they can't get enough of it!

As a guy, I'm more interested about what a man can do with a car on race day.... when he is risking his life on the track. Nice race Lewis... your talent showed strong where it counts- Results!

Ham was the real deal over the weekend! Had his tea-tray at the front end not gone south I believe he might have stuck with Vettel a bit closer.

The idea that Lewis or Jenson turned the car around is completely false; they drove what was given to them in pre-season testing (allegedly a dog) and the EXCELLENT ENGINEERS at McLaren changed scrapped their dubious exhaust system and came up with a winner. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!! Kudos to the McL engineers!

That said Hammy drove well but Vettel was untouchable. Lets see what happens on the traditional circuits.

That titanium diffuser they have is super-trick. I have no doubt that combined with the exhaust is all it took. That diff has tons more area in it than most everyone else's. But yes, the engineers found the root of the issue and fixed it. The car was reportedly a workable car per the drivers, but it had a root issue which needed correcting, which they did. Good for them!

I am sure Ferrari and MB will do the same in terms of getting their car running right. Malaysia is a high-downforce track so you can count on the RB being very quick again, but who will be just behind them......

So, when we have discussions about the great drivers in F1.... we talk about the complete package. You know, how the truly great drivers are able to help develop the car by giving the team and engineers the right feedback. And as drivers get older in their careers, they may lose the gift of youth, but they become more valuable at helping the team sort the car because of their years of experience in diagnosing the cars performance on the track.

But for some reason... Lewis, in all his years of racing for the same team, had nothing to do with his teams effort? He had nothing to say about how the car was lacking on the track during testing that may have helped his team come up with ideas and a solution so quickly? (I guess I just have an issue with your statement "completely false" sure Lewis and Jenson aren't engineers but they were an important part of the process)

When something gets fixed that fast, it seems like a good example of how all the working parts of a great team can come together and solve a serious problem. Hopefully team Ferrari will be able to show the same team effort and have a better outcome by the next race.

I agree with your broad statement above but you must look at the FACTS IN THIS SPECIFIC CASE. McL had the lowest testing mileage (other than HRT) and some of that mileage was done on the 2010 car. Mcl engineers developed a trick exhaust that didn't work and changed it....do you honestly think Lewis-or Jenson-stepped out of the car and
said the exhaust is wrong and needs to be changed? Give credit where credit is due as I said...

Lewis is the freakin man, I don't care what anyone else thinks. He tells it like it is, speaks his mind, yet he's not a drama queen/****** like Alonso, Webber, etc.
