1.7 lateral Gs!?!??! That is about max grip for many race cars on slicks. To go beyond that you need more speed and downforce. That is more than impressive, it is stuning.

The 12C is areo optimised but there is a lot left on the table in a road car, just look at the 12C-GT3 version for better aero. So most of that 1.7g is from mechanical grip. It would be good to know the conditions for the 12C and 458 tests.

Just check out these videos for the difference between low and high speed G's and the effect of downforce.

Awesome videos- thanks for posting those.

Well I still maintain that it is "impressive" because we have to remember that the 12C's suspension would not be legal in just about every racing series, so there is an inherent advantage there that is beyond the reach of most GT cars. The truly amazing aspect is that McLaren decided to offer this technology at this price point.

The cover of the new Evo issue has a caption "McLaren RS", "Racer spawns extreme road car"...
As usual, the iPad edition not available yet :(
Anybody have access to a print issue and can tell us what it says?

Well, whatever the source/reason, the fact that a road car will be matching the mechanical grip of dedicated race cars is nothing short of stunning.

true. I'm not trying to play it down. I'm just more impressed that they built a product like this, since some of their competitors would also be capable of doing so, but have chosen not to.

I agree. That's one thing I like about McLaren right there: serious innovation. Re-writing the rules and all that jazz. They obviously had to if they wanted to make their mark, but it is still amazing how much they have achieved. Especially, considering the price point. Again, next to the Macca, Italia is such a lazy effort.

I'm looking at the cover of the latest EVO, just arrived. Cover image is an Enzo doing a nice drift ( Nick Mason's car) ready for a rather strange group test in the South of France. They do have many different versions of the cover. Story on page 18 about MP4 12C GT3 first test. Can't see anything referring to McLaren RS anywhere but not read it all.

From what I can tell, Porsche claims 1.5g for the GT2 RS, same for Pagani's new Huayra. At 1.7, no wonder most of those journalists looked uncomfortable with Button flogging around the circuit.

i like the quote,a car that will transport you to work with the ease and comfort of a luxury saloon, yet lap the worlds most demanding (nurburgring) track faster than all but the most specialised racing (YES RACING) cars ,7minutes it is then!!!!

The forum software probably won't permit the attachment of a PDF? Not sure. Perhaps somebody that can post it on a separate download site?

Actually it appears you can attach a PDF, if you want to try.
Just click Reply and under the box where you enter text, click the button called "Manage Attachments". Then click "Choose File" and locate the pdf on your hard drive, probably on your desktop if you downloaded from your email. Then click "Upload" and submit the reply.

Not as complicated as it sounds, but if too confusing, no worries as somebody else should be able to post to a download site!

I tried uploading it, but the size of 3 MB exceeds the limit of 2.38 MB for pdf's. Any ideas?
