Wow; damn shame. I'm not a 2 wheel fan but watch enough Speed TV to know of him; seems(ed?) like a good guy. Maybe excusable as a dumb kid prank if he was 19, but not at 25. And a 44 year old was with him?! Stupidity knowns no age restrictions.

Stupid move...and he will pay a big price.

Hell of a bio even w/o regard to ethnicity: http://js7.com/bio/

Dumb move but damn the guy is amazing on a motorcycle. Been watching him since he was on 85s

A really dumb thing to do for sure, but I think "Looks like he might have thrown it all into the toilet..." might be overstating it a bit.

All I will say is if it was you or me, we would probably be doing 3-5 years for this.
They will try to get him off by saying it was near 5pm, on a 'busy' road, so he was just kidding, not trying to rob or rape anyone.
But again, if it was you or me, we'd do time, and rightfully so.

PS - and they KEPT the lights and tried to hide them? THAT was stupid, they should have been crushed and sent to the bottom of the ocean.

wow, what an idiot. hope this doesn't ruin his career, but as Whisky says for the vast majority of people this results in some form of jail time.

anyone know who the passenger is? 44 year old from CA...manager? hopefully it wasn't a PR guy

A stupid move for sure, but JC France still has him beat. Maybe they should have a race series based on these jackasses. Let's see, we can have JC, Bubba, Jeremy Mayfield.....

Thank goodness he did try to pull over two off duty cops because now this stupid prank has come to an end whether it was his first time (unlikely) or not. I struggle to imagine how he could imagine this would be a good idea.

The original report claims that he got the bar at a "Flea Market"

    James has made a statement

Every article seems to go out of it's way to point out that
the lights were purchased at a flea market. Almost as if it's
the fault of the seller that Stewart used them in the first
    place.

Frankly, I don't see how it's relevant where the lights were
purchased. There are plenty of suppliers out there for cop
wannabe's on eBay, military surplus stores and gun shows
operating right out in the open.

Anyone can get a set of flashing lights and realistic looking
badge. I encountered this heading south on the New Jersey
Turnpike once. Driving along at a good clip, suddenly there
was a Mazda RX-7 right up my tail so I moved over to let
    the guy through.

The guy was furious and driving like a maniac. As he passed
me, he flashed a badge while screaming and yelling and waving
his arms. I thought "How many cops in Jersey are driving
    RX-7's?".

Then, just over the Deleware River the Deleware State
Police had the guy pulled over. So, I stopped to tell the
cops that the guy went by me driving like a nut, waiving
a badge. The cop went to the hood of the patrol car where
several items, including a small calibre gun, were laid out.

They showed me the wallet and I told them that was what
he was flashing. They thanked me and sent me on my way.

This isn't what Stewart did but obviously the cops take
this stuff seriously but not seriously enough to curtail
the sale of cop gear out in the open to every nut who
comes along that dosent pass the police psychological
    exam.

I hear what your saying and yes I know you can legally purchase them say off Ebay etc etc. Since I am a peace officer my point is anyone with any common sense will not 'interpret' themselves to be a peace officer so that is the point behind my question. I have also encountered the erratic driver while in my POV and did flash my badge with a friendly smile and a waving of the hand to please slow down.

The fault does not lay upon law enforcement agency's to curtail the imho 'illegal' sales of those lights that weight lies upon the goverment either nation wide or state wide. We have enough on our hands as it and our states legislatures should nip it in the butt asap.

Good points you made and I appreciate your input from a LEO point of view.

And as you know, all is fine and well - UNTIL you get caught, and then all-of-a-sudden it's someone else's fault.

Absolutely, this must be a legislatve process.

Here in Florida, we hear about incidents of impersonating
a police officer all the time. It seems absurd that the state
allows sales of cop paraphanelia but if there is a proposal
to make sales of this stuff illegal, then we're imposing
on the rights of others to impersonate police officers.

Makes you wonder who's at the controls.

Imposing on ones RIGHTS to impersonate a police officer ROFLMAO?!?!?!? It's illegal and your statement is just total nonsense. I am all for our rights too express ourselves BUT if a law is broken while expressing ones rights that is a breach of the laws setforth to help curtail anarchy.

Now back OT if Stewart actually did use the lights in an unlawful way he should be held accountable as he is no different or better than anyone else.

True, Bubba's still the fast guy if he stays on two, though Canard, Dungey and Villopoto are running the pace, too. Closest competition in a while - should be good.

Clearly, I was kidding but the point is made.

Just watch. A state puts forth an ammendment to outlaw
the sale of police lights, badges, et.al. and there will be
a segment out there (however small) that will cry foul.
