I would really appreciate a location, with dimensions please, of the holes for the PF badge on the fender, RHS. All I got, was an emblem in a baggie, with an assortment of holes on the fender. Is there a "more correct" badge for that location for a late L? I have a new emblem, but the one that came with the car has raised lettering and a slimmer font, and is very grubby, whereas the new one looks like it just came out of the oven. Only catch, if the one that is above is the proper one, it is missing the two posts as some enterprising soul cut them off... Is it restorable? Clean up, and a little dab of satin varnish? Thank you. Alberto - forget the holes and standoffs - use double sided (thin) tape. This allows for "rethinking" the location should you not quite get it right. I used a wire cutter to cut off the studs that go through the two holes. The double sided tape will last as long as the car. Jim S.
Alberto, your old one is identical to my 71 Euro badge (see pic). I did a quick search and it seems all the ones I located have the same heavy font as your new one. One thing to investigate is this last option listed on Italiancarparts.com. There's a picture for the 1st one but it has the heavy font too...maybe the "original" one (unfortunately, no picture provided) has the thin font like our originals. Ron, Thank you for the links. Jim, you are very practical about the double sided tape, only problem I see with it, is that the emblem would stand proud of the body? Unless there is an extremely thin tape available... On the emblem side of things, this pic. was kindly sent to me by Black Bart, famous for emblems and other items. There are very thin tapes available or you can use 3M Emblem Adhesive that comes in a tube and is specifically made for this job.
Alberto, I have a rather thick tape holding mine on (for 6 years and counting), and one cannot see any difference compared to the hole mount. And there are much thinner tapes available. And Rob's suggestion of a non-hardening silicon is an alternative. Rather than trying to choose the absolutely correct hole position, and dealing with changing it in the future (read, removing the fuel tank), the tape/silicon makes good sense. Jim S.
Alvaro, it is 140 x 20, I don't know if it is original. I am not certain which is the proper size, the script, I am clear. Regards, Alberto
Hello Alvaro, Alberto`s original size for the Pininfarina badge is 142 x 19 mm. 206 GT`s and early L-series are slightly different and a bit smaller. If you need the correct size for your Pininfarina badge let me know and I will measure it for you. Picture of your badge attached. Regards Matthias Image Unavailable, Please Login
Matthias, according to the photo from Black Bart, which is the correct one for my car, being a late L? I measured mine and it is 142 x 19.7 Of course I ignore if it is the correct one, but it came with the car... Regards, Alberto
yes Alberto, it`s correct for your car, but Alvaro`s early L-series is different as displayed on my picture it`s actually two pieces
Thank you very much Matthias. To check if I understood well: the correct one for my car it's a two parts badge (as shown in your picture) and the measure is 137 x 16. Do you know any place to buy the correct one ? Regards Alvaro
Here's mine (2 piece) off very early Daytona. 275's also used them. This one is 17.5 X 132.3 Greg Jones from Florida makes beautiful reproductions, correct 2 piece. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just checked and it appears like I still got the original badge on my early L #0504. It measures 17.5 x 132.3 mm, same size as mentioned above and looks like something +40 years old. My nose badge on the other hand makes me a bit nervous.....It sits on top of the nose and not down in a recess as I have seen on other Dino's, Am I looking at a nose job here or is the nose badge mounted on top of the plate on the older cars? I hope one of all the experts gathered here can advise. Regards Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
About late L-series being different from early ones... the badge off #00962 is 132.25 x 17.5 x 3mm (same as Peter) and looks to me to be original, original drilled holes in the body and some overspray behind the badge when the car was masked/repainted etc. I've also seen the same badge on other original late L-series but I didn't measure the sizes. Actually, I'm a little confused by all this... seems like some mixing of sizes going on at the factory? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can also check the hole spacing in the body to determine the badge size maybe? 95mm => 132.25 x 17.5 x 3mm (206 and some L) 100mm => 142.75 x 20 x 2.5mm (through E) ? => 137 x 16mm (some other L?) Sorry Alberto... if the holes were there to begin with!
that´s very interesting and your badge could well one of the latest old ones on L-series... I just looked it up in the Dino Compendium page 130/131 and it says the change was between #00746 and #01100.... so more correct would be to say the old badge was original on 206 GT and most L-series with the exception of the very late ones... ;-) sorry about that....
