As a byproduct of our simulator builds, we get to play / experiment with multiple items, case in point the CS Body Kit. With the exception of the some of high priced reproduction bumpers, most of the CS style bumpers I've seen look acceptable, but the fit on the car becomes a nightmare. The " experiment " .... Why not modify an existing bumper, which fits correctly on the car and maintain the structural integrity required / intended of such bumper ! Well, we pulled a couple of molds from an original CS front bumper and a stock 360 bumper in order to blend the front diffusers contemplating a minimal amount of work on the donor bumper. We created a "scribing " template , for the new inserts and attached them to the stock 360 bumper. The results seem to be an excellent alternative for those seeking a small face lift on their 360s. It took me approximately 3 hours to prepare and install the CS inserts on the bumper. I am calculating another 4 - 6 man hours in prep and paint. I've attached a few pictures of the initial process, and will follow-up with the finished bumper in a few days. If there is enough interest we can produce additional inserts . I am very interested in the inserts and would pick one up as soon as it's ready. Please keep us updated. Thanks.
Enrique: Interested as well. Will they have seamless look? It would be very very nice to have an optional small opening on each side to insert a laser detector diode (like this one) http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/HostedImages/IMG_1423.png
Two Part Epoxy and finished with either Kitty ( fiberglass bondo ) or Resin. It does require finishing and paint.
Hi Tung, Once finished, they are seamless. We modified the Inserts to conform to the face of the Stock 360 bumper , maintaining the dimensions of the CS lip. Yes you can modify the inserts to accept any gizmo ... I am actually modifying the bottom part of the mold to allow for the skid pads. Let me know if you want to come by and see the bumper and the progress on the Spider Stradale ?
Great idea! I can see these being very popular. We have Propsport producing replica CS bumpers in the UK which are of high quality but I guess it costs a fortune to ship them over the water.
I'd love to see a final product and an estimate of how much it will cost for the inserts + the amount of hours a competent bodyshop would need to do this fabrication. If it looks exactly like a CS bumper and is reasonably priced I guarantee I'll take one!
Love to see the finished item. If possible next to the original item. I have put my bumper re-spray on hold as this would be nice addition.
We will be picking up the bumper from paint tomorrow morning and will post pictures during the day ...it looks good !
Another great idea applied to your project! I can't wait to see this car done. I wish I could get out there to see some of this progress in person! Nicely done!
Quick IPhone Pics as bumper was being buffed out. The inserts are seamless, but will have higher resolution pictures tomorrow. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
looks sweet, looking forward to seeing it finished. Nice work! QUOTE=anxpert;140459565]Quick IPhone Pics as bumper was being buffed out. The inserts are seamless, but will have higher resolution pictures tomorrow.[/QUOTE]
I can't speak for anexpert whether they'd try to do the same for the rear bumper but I can say that it wont be as simple as the front. The rear bumper is lower and squarer at the corners - this could easily be achieved using the same method shown here. However, the angle of the centre grill on the CS rear bumper is different to the stock bumper - the CS grill is more vertical (which allows larger diffuser trays to be fitted). I know this as I tried to fit CS diffuser trays to a standard bumper - I'm currently working with Prosport to get diffuser trays that fit a stock bumper based on their CS moulds they have.
We are considering doing the same for the rear bumper , but without the diffusers. The possibly of debilitating the rear bumper structure would negate the appeal of a simple conversion plus the added cost of the two rear diffusers. The lateral wheel arch extensions would be as simple to integrate as the front bumper though. Stay tuned !
