Hey guys, Having recently gone to the Melbourne F1 with general admission tickets I came to the realisation that next time I go in 2012 I need grandstand seats. I was talking to a guy there who said he got a 4 day grandstand pass for under $300 last year simply because he bought them early the moment they were made available ( about june last year ) . Anyone know where, when and who will be selling the 2012 tickets so I can get in early and buy them? Would it be Foxtix again or are there independent companies that specialise in this sort of thing?
Speedcore should be able to answer your question. We sat in the Brabham Stand this year. Paid $499 for the tickets, there were cheaper ones. Im sure you can get grandstand seats for under $300 for the weekend. Here is a pic from our seats. Big screen across, big screen to our right. Toilets and drinks etc.etc. right behind our grandstand. Totally understand. I think thats the site Speedcore used to book our tickets. I see the cheapest was starting from $310. I can imagine IF there is a race next year, ticket prices will go up a little. Seems to be the way for most events these days. Either way, it was good being free to roam around then have grandstand seats and big screen available when we wanted it.
That's the official site and that's the best option. We booked late because PAP is a **** but if you get in before November you get Gold passes which lets you get in the GP Advantage Bar near Senna stand and you get access to the pit walk day on Thursday. Ticketek used to do the tix but they changed to foxtix for 2011. Any 3rd party companies will still be getting the tix from grandprix.com.au As per website they become available in May. Well the contract is till 2015. Bernie will keep the GP here till 2015, the ball is in our court if it's on next year.
Thanks, I'll have to wait till May then. problem is that all the GP Advantage people from 2011 will have the first chance to either re-new their tickets or buy new ones before I even get a chance in May so they may be all gone. The Brabham four corner package seems like the ideal one to get because youd get to have Brabham stand for the race and Fangio ( right in front of the pits ) for Qualifying. Other option is just get the Schumacher stand on race day - anyone know if this is a good spot?
Nah. The 4corner tix won't get sold out till about Nov/Dec, the amount of people that would re-new their tickets straight away would be a small percentage.. The only problem you have is picking where you want to sit I sat in Schumacher in 2009, I wouldn't pick it as a race day stand. The Fangio stand is much smaller then it used to be, the only advantage you get is you watch all the pre-race crap and you can see the cars pitting. Brabham and Jones are good stands. Just watched the youtube clip you attached - gee that Big screen in front looks far away, can you actually see anything on it?
Big screen across was good viewing, a little hard to see the writing though. The big screen 20m to our right was what I looked at when I needed to read what was going on.
Yeah saw a few people ( mostly japanese tourists ) with these at the track - problem is its a little 3" screen that you have to squint to see - maybe if it came with a large 8 - 10" screen ( ipad style ) it would be worth it.
I had one in 2010. The 3" screen isn't really an issue, its there to keep you up to date with what's going on when cars aren't at your corner. It's around your neck so you shouldn't be squinting. If you had a proper tablet you would probably just stream it off the net for free. You get to chose if you want to listen to BBC1 or BBC5 and you get to pick 4 drivers T-cams at one time(if you like). Because we had the 2nd screen close to us I didn't get one this year. The only issue was it had a 1sec delay to the big screens. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So If get a choice of seats where would you think it would be better to sit, down low so you're closer to the track or up high so you get a better view?
Apologies for slight digression but - any of you guys have contacts for corporate seats or pit passes for the Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercars event to be held at Surfers Paradise from 21-23 October 2011.
Don't intend to take any photos. In fact I was so surprised by some people at the F1 when it comes to taking photos. The guy standing next to me took about a thousand during the race and was just clicking away - he missed most of the race cause he wasn't even looking. I could also see on his little preview LCD screen on the camera that all he was getting was a bunch of blurry f1 cars flying past. If you want a photo of a F1 car so badly just go online and download one - there's no shortage of them. Me - I go to the race to see the race and not to bury my head in a viewfinder. But thanks for the advice - perhaps a higher position would be better so the fence doesn't block the view.
Well I meant this as well Also depending on the corner you actually see more of the track so you get to see the F1 cars for longer. Like the top of schumacher you can see them come around 3 corners instead of 2. Plus you can stand up on your seat if you can get the back row and not worry about people behind you Down low is bad because you could get the guard rail of where you are sitting plus the fence so it looks like this Image Unavailable, Please Login
