Is this road still safe for motorbikes come May? (after school holidays obviously) Or do you take a chance with snow etc anytime you take it?
It was a magnificent road RB. Bit too windy for a passenger mind you. I'm going to return and do days 1 & 2 drive on my own. All 100kph roads which is near impossible to acheive so therefore legal and fun. MHH, next time you come to Melbourne, put a day aside mate, you must go on these roads, as good as any of the roads we did in tassie.
When he and Waz were over last year he was discussing doing it during a week with group, I think he said he'd done in the Merc. Well, my plan is for the first week of May, do it in 2 days midweek.
We should be able to knock it off in 1 day. We don't have big lunches on these drives and its just over 600km. I reckon a good drive one day would be the Day 1 & 2 drive as referenced above on say a Thursday, head back to Melbourne on the Friday to catch the overnight boat to Tassie to drive Saturday and Sunday around Tassie returning to Melbourne Sunday night. I meant as in no passenger.
Horse and I have had similar handbrakes on drivedays some years back ........... Horse lost his handbrake along the way on one of them
Sounds like a plan. Not sure I can do it on the next Tassie weekend but definitely keen. Which roads did you like most?
Day 1 we headed east from Yara Valley to Metung. Day 2 was from Metung along the great alpine road through to Bright and beyond. The quality of roads on day 2 were magnificent and the views sensational.
I can't make the next Tassie trip and of course then we have the GG run. Perhaps we work on this one for either at the end of 2011 or early 2012??
the Lowe run would be a awesome 3 day trip rather then 4 days and then at Port Fairy its an easy trip back to S.A.
