    While I was cleaning the pistons on my 348 calipers, I found that two of them have very fine cracks in them. At first, I thought it was a hair on it but I can feel the crack with my fingernail. Has anyone seen this before? If so, what would cause this? I know it is hard to see in the pics but you can just make the cracks out. They are about a third of the way up from the bottom.     I would say heat has caused it, I am not an expert but I would say that the hairline cracks would have no effect on the braking or any reduction in safety as they work under compression not expansion.???

    The more that I study this, the more I am starting to think that these are scratches caused by a grit of dirt as I worked the piston out of the caliper. I rotated the pistons a bit to free them up. These pistons came out of the caliper where I found a bit of mud (see pic). So I think they may be alright. I hope anyway. :)

    Small amount of compressed air and they pop right out. No need to pull/twist on anything.

    I had tried the air but no go. That was when I gently rotated the pistons a bit. I removed all of the other pistons by air.

    Another easy way to remove stuck or corroded pistons is to attach a grease gun to the port the hose normally screws into.Just pump grease into the cavity and the piston will "hydraulic" out. Be sure to clean out all the grease prior to re-assembly.
