if at 175mph one would hit the brakes for a tight hairpin and tap the downshift paddle 4 times as fast as possible would the ecu pick the best time to downshift and how would the 355 react as compared to the 360???

I suspect hitting the brakes and downshifting at that speed is a dangerous proposition so I certainly have not tried it. Also, I don't own a 355 F1 but I've driven several and I believe it would react the same as my 360 F1 coupe. From my experience and reading the manual, I believe nothing would happen.

At that speed the system realizes a downshift (even just 1 gear) would rev the engine beyond redline so the request(s) is/are ignored. I believe the system views multiple rapid F1 paddle hits as a single request to the lowest gear specified and will only accept the request if the increase in RPM at the time of request is at or below redline.

fair enough but will the system remember the 4 downshift requests and give the downshifts once the reduction in speed is achieved???

is it true 360f1 automatically blips the throttle on downshift i dont think 355f1 does its left up to the driver???

Frank- No, the ECU will not remember the commands and will just assume you screwed up. Later cars (599 GTO, at least) have a left paddle hold down feature, which will downshift for you as maximum safe rpms are reached as long as the paddle is kept depressed. If in a safe rpm range for two shifts and the downshift paddle is hit twice, you will get two downshifts, but the manuals actually recommend one gearshift at a time.

The 360 and later cars (F430, 575s, 612, and 599s) have a digital throttle that has way more throtle contrl authority than the F1 system does using the 355's analog throttle. The 355 F1 system does try to rev match on downshifts, but cannot affect the throttle enough to match revs on most downshifts. So the 355 F1 is a car where you can have F1 and still get to practice heel and toe, or right and left foot if you drive that way.

Go to this website and download owners manuals and workshop manuals for F1 cars and read up on it yourself. Should answer most of your questions and we should be able to cover the rest for you.

Have not tried the 355 F1 on track yet but the 360 F1 does remember to change down. If you are going down the back straight at Silverstone in 5th and know you want say 2nd gear out the next corner click down change paddle 3 times and then just worry about braking and turn in the car changes down blipping the throtle then just nail it out the corner and you will be in 2nd gear, this was the reason I sold the 360, was like an auto and detracted from the fun of manual boxes
