Very interesting. I love the green and orange. It would seem surprising that they produced so many colors for so few cars. But I have an original ISO color sample set from the 1960s and the number of colors available is amazing, more than a dozen.

Did you know Ghia's body design used for the Mangusta was originally intended to be used for an Iso? Compared to today's paint facilities Ghia's paint booth was pretty basic. It was fairly easy for the guys to rinse out their guns and change to a different color.

That list is a great start. I know of one color that is missing - copper metallic ("rame metallizato"). I believe only one or two 'gooses were painted that color (mine is one of these). I believe it is the same or similar color to the rather rare Pantera copper.

Here is a picture of my Iso color sample, an original from the 1960s. There are 23 colors!

The colors look different depending on the lighting. I tried to take a picture that is representative. There are 3 or 4 copper like colors and there are colors that are very close to my Iso Grifo and Iso Rivolta colors.

The nine colors I mentioned in post #450 seem to be included in that color wheel. Can you tell me what the name and code are for the silver? Are they Glidden Salchi paints?

    Daryl,

Sorry for the delay in answering. Yes, they are Glidden Salchi color samples.

The silver is "Argento Auteuil Metallizzato" with a number 106 E 1. This is the color that is the seventh color from the Iso logo going upward.

My silver car appears to be identical to the 10th one on the color wheel, CCW from the logo. It does have a very slight greenish blue cast.

The repaint is to match the 8th one over CCW

Note : this pic looks bluer than it actually is

The colors on my computer screen and the colors on the actual sample are not exactly the same. I think there is a little lost in the picture plus our monitors.

I would be happy to email the picture to anyone who sends me their email address, although this may not help.

    Experts :

    I had a discussion with a knowledgable friend :

he keeps telling the Mangusta was designed by Bertone

    but I'm not sure

would you please throw light in this discussion

¿ Who designed the Mangusta ?

The Mangusta was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro while he was at Ghia. At the same time he designed the Maserati Ghibli. Both were introduced in 1966. The car bodies were built in Ghia's factory. That is why there are Ghia badges on the Mangusta. Your friend is probably confused because Giugiaro started out working at Bertone.

this Mangusta is just now being offered on eBay. I have been discussing the car with the owner, a very nice gentleman who has put his own mechanical skills to work on it, but is yielding to someone new to take over (current owner shared it was originally yellow). I think that this very early, perhaps FIRST non-prototype example is this car - the yellow one used in some early promotional material...can anyone confirm my suspicions? Daryl, Denis, ???

    here is eBay offering;

That sound like a great investment. I looked at that car in 2006 or 2007. The owner was asking $105 Can or $100 US. Assuming he got his price he paid 70 Euros now he's selling 189 E. The car is perfect, not original but extremely clean.

Was over at a buddies office this weekend and among his diecast about the cabinets I spotted a Mangusta... turns out to be a Corgi, but the interresting fact was the "backbone chassis" was removeable from the body... allowing it to be shown separately... Way cool... FYI...
