Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

oh, your sarcasim came through :D i just have to copy and paste that picture from a few pages back.

Seriously though, what would warrant going on tv this far away?? Either he has a date set, or i bet he is announcing the title sponsor of the track....??? don't know what else he would be having to 'market'

I don't. After they gave Peter Weiner a platform to announce his F1 team I wouldn't put anything past them.

    Here's what it says...

Friends of Formula 1 Austin Texas Dear Friends of F1,
As a strong advocate of the Formula 1 project, I would like to ask your help and support by having you send an email to the Senator Kirk Watson, Senator Eddie Rodriguez and copy Representatives Steve Ogden and Jim Pitts showing your support. I have attached an example template for you to view. I would also suggest that you add your own personal comments in support of this very important project that will benefit our local community in Southeast Travis County.

Please do this today! It only takes a couple of minutes and will benefit our community tremendously.

    Highest regards,
    Vance Facundo

    (send to the following addresses)

    Senator Kirk Watson
    [email protected]

    Representative Eddie Rodriguez
    [email protected]

    (CC: the following)

    Senator Steve Ogden

    Representative Jim Pitts

----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cut and Paste this template, do not forward)

Dear Senator Watson and Representative Rodriguez,
As a strong advocate for bringing the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ to Austin, Texas, I urge you to support this important project for all Texans. Formula 1 racing is the most-watched annual television sport in the world, providing an opportunity for Texas to be seen by millions of viewers in more than 180 countries.
The 1,000-acre project, which will host the Grand Prix, is currently one of the highest-profile construction projects in the State of Texas. Construction of the facility is estimated to cost between $250 million to $300 million. Located only five minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from downtown Austin, this facility will be a hot spot for business, education and entertainment.
The potential economic impacts created by this facility for Texas are enormous.
    • The F1 event, alone, is projected to generate more than $300 million annually for the state.
    • In a down economy, the F1 project is creating more than 1,100 construction-related jobs for Texans;
    • Construction totals are expected to exceed $300 million, providing revenue to numerous Texas-based companies with thousands of Texas employees;
    • The facility is being built to attract and accommodate year-round uses that will generate millions of dollars of additional revenue for the state. Examples of uses beyond race weekend include:
    o Conference facilities and executive meeting suites;
o Trauma and medical care training facility; and
    o Law enforcement training opportunities.
    • The facility is also intended to serve as an incubator for new, cutting-edge technologies and is already serving as a catalyst for companies wanting to relocate to Texas to be associated with the project.
    • Its potential for educational-sector opportunities in our state is already apparent, with curriculum partnerships being planned between F1 and Del Valle ISD, Texas A&M University, St. Edward’s University, Huston-Tillotson University and the University of Texas.
We need your support. The jobs, educational opportunities and the economic impact it will create for our state depend on it.

    cc: Senator Ogden

    Representative Pitts

    Thanks.
I'm still not clear as to what form that support is expected to take.
Is this in some way connected with this week's announcement I wonder?

LOL. I'd hoped you'd be able to make more sense of it than I could. It's hard to tell if the project is somehow under threat or this is some proactive type of move. Maybe someone else on the forum can tell us if this is typical or not. Maybe BigTex...??

No matter what it is (public funding, infrastructure, etc. ) you'd think that it would have been arranged at an earlier stage of the project.

    That wasn't the funny part.

For a race in "2012" this is the funny part.

I'm facing a lot of heat at the office, over my personal life, so "F1 Austin" is forbidden, in my meetings with Austin Commercial.

It seems I pizzed off the GC rep out at Shell Labs Westhollow the other day, simply by wearing my real Ferrari Crew Shirt (Shell).......ROTFLMAO!

    He's a pimple on my azz.......:D :D :D

All business here........oh wait, there's a 308Clutch set in FerrariAds .....SOLD!

The State subsidy is a tax exemption, already in place, unless that's being renegotiated.
The recent Superbowl gets the same deal.....

Part of the press release will be an artist's concept drawing of the track lay-out. I guess you would call it an architects concept rendering? I already have a copy and it is a beautiful track - I know where I want to sit! BTW I noticed that a part of this artist's impression is up on the US F1 web site.

Well, it WAS the Houston Ferrari/Lambo Happy Hour that evening, so I was getting an "early start"...

It left this young "up and comer" with Gilbane scratching his head, trying to figure out who in the Firm I was directly related to!! LOL!

No one of course, although the President WAS a groomsman in my first wedding...

Maybe it was my Panama Jack hat.......:D :D :D

That's it really......the Facilities design team is only now finalizing their part of the design (common in "Fast TracK" these days..)

The watercolor rendering is always my favorite part of the presentation.

I usually steal it and frame it at home, when no one is looking.
You can replace it with a Xerox and it'll be months before any one notices.....

Housekeeping did that to me once, with some one hundred dollars bills I had won at Safety Incentive Aawards.

The rendering in the video is the one I have. It is a nice poster size so I think I will frame it at some point. Got it Sat so have been able to look at it and figure out where the most action is likely to be. Anyway it will be interesting to see what they have to say in the press conference. One interesting thing to note is that there has been an F1 Williams in town now for a few weeks. Pops up now and again at various events, probably a dummy roller but I have been told it was a race chassis at some point.
