FUTURE VALUE OF CGT

A 959 owner in MD??? Is it road legal? I would love to see one of those in person if it is ever out in the area.

I haven't read the article you referenced, but I think values of the CGT will do rather well overtime. It didn't break any new ground like the 959 did, but I think it will become collectable due being the most pure supercar out in it's time. No AWD or F1 transmission. Just the sound from that wonderful V10.

 

A CGT will go down in value until it starts going up in value.

Meanwhile, many great driving days will go by.

The 356 Carrera GT is an extremely rare vintage car. I think the modern CGT is going to appeal to a different market.

As an aside, the problem with all "modern collectibles" is that they are superceded so quickly. At the ultra-performance end of the spectrum, the new 997 GT2 RS is a beast. At the style and hand-made vintage charm end of the spectrum, the 356 Carreras are just irreplaceable.

Everything else is kind of in between.

 

Was going to buy a CGT until I drove one...It does not make a very pleasing street car as its limits are just way to high to use anywhere other than a track...plus it feels like a big car when driving it with bad sightlines of where the corners are

 

Its much bigger than its rounded styling makes it look. Park it next to say, a 928, and take a shot down low from a long distance(minimum perspective), and you'll realize that the CGT makes a 928 look almost small. It would dwarf a 356

 

Not sure what this means really .. the same could be said about the performance of any modern sports car, from the Corvette ZR1, the 458 Italia, the Enzo of course, etc.

I just bought a CGT and must say IMO it is one of the best values per $ that I have every seen at current prices. You just can't get anywhere close to the kind of build quality, exotic materials, and sheer performance and purity of purpose for that money. With well optioned 458 Italia (which I also have) approaching 280-290k it really emphasizes that point. As to where the long term value goes, who knows, but I am quite sure I will lose less on the CGT than my 458 .. and most likely would never sell the CGT anyways as there will be nothing else like it again.

 

Not much love for the CGT here. Gotta get back over to Rennlist!! It's a great supercar and like the Enzo, it's not derived from another car a la Stradale or Scuderia or etc. I think it will be a classic.

 

Its a posers car with no race history. I agree it is a fantastic value however considering the materials, mechanicals and build quality. It is just no fun to drive and the new McClaren at 275k is also ultra high tech and a great drive

 

trying to compare the CGT to the 458 is comparing aaples and oranges you might as well compare the CGT to a chevy suburban. The 458 is a regular production car that is hot today becuase of limited supply but over time it will be just another regular production ferrari v8 with the typical depreciation. I very much agree with you that the CGT will hold value much better long term and that is is a great value compared to other cars today in the super car world. But, as some others have mentioned it is hard to use and enjoy the CGT often on the roads that we have in the northeast so at the end fo the day it comes down to what you are looking for. Do you want a car that will hold value well like the CGT but you cant use it very often, or get a car like a 458 that will depreciate heavily over time but you can enjoy it more often on typical roads. I dont think there is a right or wrong answer but I do think the CGT is in a different category than a 458 in terms of being a long term investment car

 

Agreed - the only reason I brought up the 458 was because of the similarity in current pricing at this point, other than that they are entirely different. My strategy is to have both a special car like the CGT and more user friendly car like the 458 (or the mclaren which I also put an order in for!). That way all sports car bases should be covered ..

BUT, since this is a discussion about future values I would say it will be like the F40. Bouncing around the same level give or take 100k for many years

 

you guys must either be joking or be mental (or possibly have very poor taste)! the car is gorgeous and has a timeless supercar look. I've read a lot of comments on this car, but ugly was not one I had ever heard before.

i took it as the MP4-12C was ugly, not the CGT. if in fact the CGT was the car being referred to as ugly, i would have to STRONGLY disagree as well. i think it's an engineering work of art, even considering the 'compromises' it came with from the factory (80+ lb exhaust system, etc). easily one of my fave supercars. heck it's in my avatar

 

a poseurs car? really? no fun to drive? many owners, and many who have been lucky enough just to drive it, would disagree big time. per the McLaren, that muffled twin turbo V-8 can't hold a candle to the NA V-10 in the CGT...both in response and sound. add the twin clutch gearbox to that turbo engine and you get a completely different feel/experience in the power delivery, visceral department

 

CGT is the last car any true "poser" would attempt to drive.
There are many "poser's" cars but that Porsche is definitely not in this category.

I love the CGT and am glad it was only sold in a manual. Hopefully the prices come DOWN in the future so I can get one. How come all the cars I love are loved by many and thus prices push up?

I recall people not liking the design of the CGT when it originally came out. They said it was too plain, looked like a Boxster, or even a kit car. I can see what they mean, but I think it looks good. Not the best looking supercar (it's not flashy), but one that I want.

 

Completely agree! Most folks in the "know" are afraid of this beast.

I had the chance to ride passenger in one and I almost peed my pants. The V10 motor sounds so awesome almost like a F1 race car. I loved being a passenger in one and can't imagine how fun it would be to drive one.

Comparing a Twin Turbo Nanny mobile to a CGT is like comparing a 400i to a 250TR.

Ferrari Chat is always good for something and almost never is it a large group of guys that like Porsches.



CGT values just rose a chunk. The 918 Spyder coming out at 845k USD made every CGT on the planet worth 10-20% more right off the bat and most likely killed any depreciation for the next 5 years.


The cars are fantastic. They do EVERYTHING you ask them to do. If you have the balls. If you don't have the balls you buy something else and complain about a car that is purely magnificant and call it a poser car.
