Newey's cars are always a package, no part is there on its own. It would be ridiculous to think that the flexible front wing alone would make the car so fast.

Its easy to attribute success to just one factor but Newey's cars are never One Trick Ponies.

RB7 runs a ton of front rake, much more than the rest of the field. Their front wing of course yields a lot of downforce and I bet their rear wing has an angle of attack different to anyone on the field specifically catering to all the rake they are running. The diffuser being so high is made up for with their trick exhaust. Clever bunch

Yes agreed the sum of all the parts makes it work, Newey has built on the basic idea and perfected it.

In others words, jacking the back end up and putting on a flexing front wing would not be enough.

    Clever stuff.

A bit of credit needs to go to the Infinity (nee Renault) motor. Seems to have better power delivery and consumption which allows RB a bit of extra flexibility.

Indeed. Does not do Renault any harm when the engine is in the right hands.

They probably run so much rake because of their soft setup and because that wing pulls the whole front end of the car down.

    edit - and guys it's InfinitI ;)

I'm a bit confused with this renault, Infinity engine thing. Cause Infinity is a part of Nissan in the same was Lexus is a part of Toyota. So if Renault is nothing to do with Infinity then whats the Infinity/Renault partnership?

This is really baffling as I don't know how they are getting the rear end to handle all the front end downforce they are running without going crazy out of balance. They could be running an equally soft rear end and planting the thing with everything they have aero-wise, which while they still have a pretty good rear end, it's not the prize-winner to this car which is obviously their front end. Perhaps they are running tons of ballast at the front end while running the rear as light and low as possible...... Thinking out loud here folks. Interesting stuff

They can run the rear end higher and achieve greater downforce at the rear due to their exhaust configuration, and how efficiently it uses the rear diffuser.
This car is going to be studied for a long time.
Red Bull said a significant upgrade is coming shortly.....

If their diffuser creates more downforce (rear bias) then they WILL have to crank the front wing for a ballanced car.
So in essance the diffuser is the determining factor with the front wing a counterballance.
The rear wing may just serve as a fine tune.

    Must be nice.

Can't do that now; weight distribution is predetermined this year (forgot the exact numbers), and they only have a 1% tolerance.

I can't figure out how they could make that diffuser so good with just the exhaust blowing the outer edges. Apparently so though. Must be nice indeed.

RB7 has more updgrades? Who says? They just stuck that fancy trailing edge wing at the top edge of the diffuser. More aero from them wouldn't surprise me I guess....
