State committee votes to retract Formula One Austin $25M incentive...
Thanks, I thought I was in this verbal skirmish on my own! LOL! Monticello had the exact same traffic issues IIRC, moving the projected attendees in and out. It was a built track admittedly but NOT to FIA standards,....it's a Motoring Club. *extending pinkie while drinking tea*
I don't think that a new F1 facility is economically viable anywhere in the US at this point. It has nothing to do with the Texas location.
I get that. However the timing seems not coincidental given Tuesday's events. Might not be "The End" but rather "The End is near". Hopefully I'm wrong.
The $25M actually isn't much compared to the total cost of the project....$300M??? And as I emphasize again it was a credit basically of property taxes they DON't have to pay (or receive an offset) once the facility is built. It's a VERY common economic perk granted to companies that bring payrolls into the state. I'm sure Formosa Plastics got an even better deal, and became one of the largest polluters in the state, in return...
Exactly, now we can frame Tuesday's events as an attempt to sway public opinion, not a last ditch ploy to lure investors (that they don't need anyways) which, is a good thing, because, no way it's not going through, just politics........
Are you saying that the majority people in New York state give a rat's a$$ about F1? Really? I though all they cared about was Football (the one where you use your hands) and baseball...? Things must have changed in the last 3 months!!
Agree 100% - My only point was since the majority of the fan base is outside the US it might make sense to have the event in a city that someone from oh say Europe has at least heard of or perhaps visited and one that has history hosting other events that attract the same clientele/interests as the F1 crowd. No - I am not SLAMMING Austin - I actually like it there - but have thought from the get-go that it was about as stupid an idea as possible for an F1 event. If there was already an established F1 event in the US then maybe but for the only one and the first one in many years it is silly IMHO.
I think it is a fair statement that cities like New York, Chicago, Miami etc. have a bit more of a "global" population and workforce than Austin - And since the majority of US people in general could care less about F1 then the success will be dependent on people who understand and perhaps have a history of attending/enjoying the sport - perhaps from where they or their families lived prior to moving to the US. Surely there is some poll somewhere by city that asks who the last (ok make it easy) three F1 WDCs have been and doubt the most stellar score will come from Texas. Cheers
The real shame will be if this attempt fails and turns other promoters off. If this doesn't come off a USGP may be just a dream for years to come.
Spin implies a certain amount of inside knowledge. Let's call it speculate. Cause that's all we're doing
Even if it does fail, why would you want to pour salt on the wounds, and change it back to your original title??
Because this project was not based on fiscal reality from it's inception. The title should never have been changed. And before you ask... as for Mr McCombs... I would wager his investment is protected. Perhaps he bought the land,... which he keeps when the project fails. As for salt in a wound,... oh please. It's F1. It's a circus. I'm more upset about losing the vintage tracks than a track that never was.
Oh, i got what you meant. You were never convinced that this project was viable, so there was never any emotional investment in it. Some of us however, are hoping it goes through, because it'd advance the sport in America nicely. Still hopeful. Come middle of May and they're still just moving around dirt, I'm going to start to worry, until then......
