Word is out on the streets that Porsche is going to release an even more hardcore GT3 RS, with a 4.0 L Engine that turns out 500 naturally aspirated horses!

    http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/14/porsche-911-gt3-rs-4-0-limited-edition-leaked-online/

The original source is a Teamsp**d thread, and there have been doubts as to its authenticity. On the other hand, dealers are apparently accepting deposits. If this is true, it would be a fantastic swansong for the 997.

Anyone here heard anything about this car?

The real question is how rare a regular base 997 coupe without any plaques will be in the future...

    I'm sure it will scream.

"final" and "best" remain to be seen, given Porsche's insatiable appetite for "limited editions" lately.

+1. There have been several 997 variants, but I think this will be the one to get. It's meant as a final farewell to the engine from the Le Mans winning 911 GT1. I think the most astonishing part is the engineering: Porsche have managed to extract 500 HP out of a naturally aspirated flat 6.

I've read reports of an April 28th reveal date, but I'm taking it with a pinch of salt.

Wow that 4 Liters will be stout. 125hp/L is awesome and nearly the same as the 458.

    what will is cost $200k?

Very impressive. Sounds like it will be the GT3 to own...until the 998 GT3 RS 4.1L MKiii Special Edition Black hits the market in time for Christmas.

They will be limited to 125 cars to America and they will probably list for about $180K.

Wait, I think I feel something... could it be Dean channelling himself through me to defend himself? I think I'll go with it and see what happens.

    *goes into a trance*

    OK Mr. Incognito... cough please.

*comes back out of the trance*

    Well, what happened? :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

The latest I've heard is that it may "only" have 485 HP from the NA 3.8L motor.

Either way, it's the final iteration of the Mezger dry-sump flat 6, which for Porsche guys is cause for serious wood. I'm getting a chubby just thinking about it.

With that, I hope the 07 RS, will continue to fall in price, at an accelerated rate.

    An update:

    http://www.news.de/auto/855164801/die-weisse-jungfrau/1/

A German website has some tentative pics as well as a spec sheet. Take with a huge grain of salt:

4 L Engine with 500 HP and 460 Nm of torque
    0-60 mph: 3.9 seconds
    0-124 mph: 12 seconds
Top speed: 300+ kph (186+ mph)
    Weight: 1360 kg
    Nurburgring lap time: 7:27 (!!!)

I'm actually skeptical about these figures; the 3.9 seconds to 60 sounds rather high, since its predecessor hit 60 in 3.8 seconds. On the other hand, it could be just Porsche underestimating its figures again (as they always do).

7:27 for a Nurburgring lap is hugely impressive. Can't wait until this car debuts!

It would have been spectacular if this car looked like the GT3 RSR, but we can't always get what we want...

I also get the feeling that they didn't do major stylistic renovations since they have a new 911 coming out soon, and didn't want this car to upstage the newcomer in terms of looks.

Although from what I hear the bigger change is the next Boxster/Caymen as opposed to the 991 that should debut in September.
