I need a place to live

ID sucks. Otay, the whole state smells like a cow fart and the water is garbage. It has served its purpose and now it's time to move on.

I need a good place to live in year round. Hot weather/humidity is fine so long as it isn't any longer than four months +/-, same goes for snow.

Population should be 500k +/- for the main city with even less on the outskirts with no more than an hour drive to get groceries. Taxes should be pretty mild.

Also, must have good restaurants and good meats and veg from the local supermarket.

Easy access to walking paths and other stuff, too.

Thanks. I heard ID was great. No people, great skiing. I'm not going anywhere, but ID was someplace I was sort of dreaming about. So it's good to hear some reality.

We spend some of our time in Manhattan. Too bad you're not a city person, because we were just in Brooklyn, and it's pretty amazing. Like Milwaukee, it has a neighborhood feel to it.

Do you ski? What about living in Tahoe? San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma are day trips.

 

I agree. I wouldnt mind living there for a while as it seems the quality of life is very good. People are very nice, some places are very pretty and Road America is amazing. If you dont need a big city, it's a nice choice.

 

I spend a LOT of time in Idaho.... it's a beautiful state! Not a thing wrong with it.

Idaho is great! My family has a house up there that we spend a few months of the year at, conveniently it's right on the Idaho/Montana/Wyoming. I actually end up spending most of my time in Montana when I'm up there.

SLC isn't supposed to be a fun place to live for non-Mormons from what I hear. That's another matter for P&R though!

 

Salt Lake is about 60% non-Mormon nowadays, I live about 15 minutes south. I guess it depends on how much you like the outdoors as well. We got a lot of it.

 

how does SLC compare climate-wise to Denver?

I've been there - dull heat in the summer, and the cold leaves one somewhat numb.

 

Not sure, I've just driven through Denver.
SLC has four distinct season. Summers usually get up to mid 90, occasionally there will be some triple digit days. Winters are in the 20s-30s and last from November-ish to March-ish. It's pretty dry which I love, humidity is of the devil.

You may be joking, but that is actually a very good recommendation. Especially if you like car culture

Although, not Detroit, but one of the suburbs. It fits everything Korr is describing. Detroit has some of the best water in the country too; and while the state tax system is improving... price to move here is very much a buyers market!

 

Romulus (the actual town where the DTW airport is) is very quaint, and ALL the
little towns heading SE from there on Telegraph Road are awesome. I never take
the freeway from DTW to see SoJ & Jennifer - I always take the back roads
starting right in Romulus. I love that drive.
