I am thrilled that you are restoring this car. I am in the middle of re-doing a Dino that had some serious issues and I have had a ball redoing it. Although it was not advertised in any real fashion I had a pretty strong idea of what i was getting into and was in fact looking for a project car to restore. However, I have been thinking about the following ad info for your car " Hood original. Never crashed. Never used in rain, snow, no rust at all. All ball joints replaced. All new Konis. New brakes. 2004, July, on consignment with Michael Sheehan’s www.Ferraris–online.com." Clearly, this was patently untrue, misleading and absolutely false. If one relies in any fashion on the brokers statement of the cars condition and pays accordingly is the broker liable? I know that is not your goal in this effort and I applaud your dedication to the project. In reality you are a rare type of person. Most enthusiasts would see the above ad, trust it and pay a market correct price based on the specious info presented in the ad. Unfortunately, financially they would be impacted in a big way. If one pays up for a car and relies upon the brokers information to base that purchase should the broker be liable for the financial loss? I was thinking of submitting this to the Legal Files expert John Draneas in Sportscar Market magazine to see what he says. If the broker is not liable then why consider any of his statements in making a purchase decision? Again, I know this is not your aim but it is an important point to consider. Thanks (and I love your car)!!

+1 Champ. and , +100, 275 GTB, what a lovely car it will be...

I know what you are are saying first handed, many times over, and if there ever were truth in advertising, well...now we know the true meaning. I think you would have needed a railroad size magnet to pick up this 275 by the nose, and still doubt it could have.

(Some) People are simply unscrupulous, not all, but the few that will end in Dante's hell, and they will, or otherwise will have huge proctologically horrible appendages, right next to the rusty, bondo-ed, products they portray as 99.5% complete, sculpted, Gumby like cars, well...
I hope that their karma will be as rusty and corrupted as their souls.
    So there.
Where I live, we don't need lawyers, and don't need no stinking badges, we just deal with them, big time. You guys forgot how the West was won.

    Regards, Alberto

You did let your wife know that the reason there were no buyers for her was because of the astronomically high asking price that you were firmly demanding, didn't you? :)

Hi, I totally understand everything you are saying, but anyone buying any car from a broker must employee the simple rule: "buyer beware", do your own research and check every aspect of the car thoroughly before purchase - these are very old cars, they don't come with warranty and we all know how patchy the histories can be.

Even prior to Mikel Sheehan handling the car i am sure i saw that description in several other places. Plus the car has gone through several hands before it landed on my door step.

As far as i am aware this is the ownership history, I believe there have been 5 owners in total, not including dealers or consignment sales, if anyone knows different i would love to be corrected or receive additional information:

    1st owner: May 1965 - 1981 - Willy-Peter Daetwyler - (great racing driver, but sadly deceased)
    > then on consignment with Bruce Craig Lavachek or was he an owner? - (have never been able to make contact or clarify)
2nd owner: 1981 - 1983 - Bill Locke - (i know Bill and we are clear on this period of the cars life and communicate regularly).
    > then on consignment with Nostalgia Cars - Not sold (dealer no longer exists)
    > then on consignment with Rittermark Porsche (dealer no longer exists)
3rd owner: 1983 - 2004 - Henry E Payne - (great man and huge car enthusiast, but sadly no longer with us, I am in contact with the family)
    > then on consignment with Michael Sheehan, i believe through the Payne's family friend Bill Gammon - (I have been in contact with Mike, as i said before "no issues as far as i am concerned")
4th owner: 2004 - 2009 - Scott Stupay - (i have been in contact. Scott was involved in Ferrari's, so i am sure he was aware of what he bought.)
    > then with Autosport Designs NY - Not sold at the dealership, then entered in The RM Auction, Monetery. - (I have been in contact, very helpful people)
5th owner: 2009 - present -myself Mark McCracken

Alberto that is brilliant, albeit very dark and deep! If Quentin Tarantino ever does a horror move about car dealers, I think he should be calling you to get the script!
I am laughing, but i am sort of scared!

Mark, all tongue in cheek, yet you are very right...caveat emptor!
Congratulations on a most inspiring "because It's there..." undertaking.
I know how it feels, and possibly, how mesmerizingly depressing when faced
with realities one did not bargain for.
Yet, I love what you are doing, and I must confess I had never seen a nose
as deeply sculpted even where I live, where an inch, max two is the expected
    quantity.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting the beautiful picture of your family. I expected you to be my age !!! Glad to see you have taken ahold of a car with some history !!

Am amazed at the rust's work. But that is what cars of that age were designed to do. Again, its great you have the dedication to move ahead with the attention to detail.

Just curious, why didn't you have the specialist or another Maranello specialist do the engine? What about the gearbox, will that be rebuilt?

    Best
    Dom

    Hi Dom,

Joe Macari and his team at the Ferrari workshop in London are controlling the whole project, they will be doing all the engine and mechanical work, while Joe's team in italy do the body work. Joe's mechanics in the classic department have already rebuilt the trans-axel, it is now completely finished and ready for installation when the time comes.

I am very fortunate in that Joe's own passion is the restoration of historic Ferrari's. He personally overseas the work in London and spends a considerable amount of time back and forward to Italy checking on his team there, hence why i get so may updates on the body side of the restoration project!

They have just installed a state-of-the-art engine dyno room at the London workshop, so the engine will be bench run-in before refitting to the car. They also have a twelve cylinder/carb/manifold lambda set up for fine tuning the carbs, so it should run beautifully right from the start.

    thanks Mark
