    Some time ago, I gathered a bunch of data from Road and Track to estimate 0-60 times from a multiple regression equation, using HP and weight. My predictions were only about 70% correct. But here's a calculator just posted on the web, again based on regression estimates, that uses HP, weight, drive (rear, front, awd) and clutch (dual, manual, auto). If I enter the specs for my 458, the estimated acceleration time is 3.0secs, what Road and Track report. Worked well for my 993TT as well.

    I sometimes use regression analysis with a HP-12c in my real estate appraisal work, such as for calculating the contribution value of a square foot of heated living area in a particular market area or subdivision.

    Out of curiosity, what did you use? (This is the first time I've seen that term on FChat)

    -@curb weight, 3340 lbs.: 6.219 sec.

    -@fully laden weight, 3736 lbs.: 6.6764 sec.

    In the ballpark yet optimistic. My seat of the pants guess is 7.0 sec. with me (195 lbs.) and ten U.S. gallons in the tank.

    IMO, the dogleg 1-2 upshift costs a good .5 second.

    I have often wondered how much time the dogleg adds, I would have guessed less that 1/2 a second, though I suspect it wouldn't be much less

    Interesting calculator. I'm just wondering is my F1 considered an automatic? It's not a dual clutch.

    I'm surprised it doesn't ask for torque as an input. Peak torque and rpm at which it is reached might lend a bit more credibility to this calculator.

    FWIW, I have been thinking about this over the last week as I have driven my QV daily the last few weeks. I agree that the 1-2 shift does add some time between shifts. .5 seconds is not unrealistic. Could it be done faster - maybe yes, but for us normal people with average shift times that seems about right.

    With torque and horsepower peaks coming up fast in first, a quick and smooth 1-2 shift is essential to maintaining high RPM and momentum, and the extra half second needed to make the dogleg results in an RPM drop at the most critical moment. IMO, the dogleg is a very basic design flaw in an otherwise awesome car and the principal contibuting factor to the 308 series' reputation for sluggish acceleration.

    From my 1960s era POV, a 0-60 time of 6 to 7 seconds is eminently respectable, 5 to 6 seconds brutal, and below 5 will rip you a new ******. 6.5 seconds was pretty much the standard for street-trim musclecars of that time.

    As remedies, I replaced the standard shifter gate with a 'Slickshift" gate from Recambi and went to Red Line gearbox oil at the last fluid change. The Slickshift makes for a more direct diagonal 1-2 shift and increased confidence; the Red Line oil made an immediate improvement in warmup time and smooths out the notchy resistance at second. Between the two, I've probably shaved a quarter-second off 0-60.

    That's pretty good, gives you a nice general idea of where your car stands if you don't already know.
