Guys, what are the considerations around parallel imported or used imported Ferraris?

Are such cars welcomed at the local Ferrari agent for servicing and repairs? If so, I assume one has to be prepared to be charged more and wait longer than officially imported cars. If not, what are some of the independent workshops FULLY capable of servicing, maintaining and repairing these cars, mechanically and electronics wise?

Would you even consider the idea of a PI or used import?

    Any other inputs appreciated. Thanks!

P.S.: Anyone has any idea what F430 Scuderias are actually transacting at currently?

Since Ital is a new dealer, they will service PI models not sold by them, ie F430, Scud. THis is confirmed when i check with Ital. But they will not honor the warranty of the PI car but will service it. I have got no issues with PI cars, only who will service them. I guess you should ask Ital to have a look at it before putting down the money. Besides Ital, there is HSM and Ben who are more than capable of taking car of both these cars. So Lionel, what is it going to be Lambo or Ferrari. From your post, i think the SL or Scud is more you.:D

Thanks King. Good to know that there are alternatives for servicing/maintenance.

Still find myself swaying from F to L and vice versa. Ha ha....mind vs heart vs bank account!

What Cka said & also Kelvin of KBS plus Exquisite M who have just received their new system for Ferrari that can read cars up to 458. Even my standalone mechanic in KL imported a new system that is said to be superior to Ferrari's. Well....

The issue is getting the parts & you'll be surprised how slow it can be, even for agents. You need lobang for these things. The 430 & Gallardos are old enuf by now for 3rd party guys to work on it.

Scuds should be $700K+ but you're heading into 458 territory. New, warranty & treated like a King! :D

Lastly, how long are you going to keep it? Anything less than 2yrs then work your sum out.

From whom did you receive the SMS? I've already got a couple of "reasonable" offers but am sitting on them as I have not decided on its replacement yet. ;)

Thanks mate.... at 700k for the Scud, it makes the SL at 500k+ sound like a good deal granted that the former has quite a bit more sophistication and high tech - but given that I probably can't make use of any performance advantage of the F over the L.

As I always tell my wife, I plan on keeping whatever car I have for good! Seriously, probably 3-5 yrs as long as it stays reasonably reliable. ;)

Sounds like something I used to say but never works anymore.

I used to always justify buying a car by saying it was a dream I had for the last few years and that I would keep it for good, so dont have to worry too much about losing too much when selling etc, and then the car is gone after a year or less as I came up with a new 'dream'.

And the story then starts again saying "no la, this is really the one. The keeper!" and then a year later, its gone. Now she does not believe me anymore.

But she did say something nice though, she said at least I am that way to cars, and not to wives!

But I will say that my Esprit is really the KEEPER! And anything else bought will be another addition to the garage. Aint gonna sell it......unless.....

Guys, I just bought a copy of Evo Singapore Issue #5 and guess who were there? Our FChat brudders Lung & Vanq! Great article about the 3 modern V8 F Cars: 360CS, 430S & 458 Italia! Also, an Evo interview with the FOCS President ;)

    Lung, nice interview!

    Vanq, brilliant pics as always!

Guess many of us can relate to the above...well, at least me too especially when I don't have a money tree or for some folks plantations. ;)

had the 430spider traded it for the lp570..very different cars

430 - easier to drive / sounds nicer

lambo - more power more grip / more reliable

i have been a ferrari guy since young, honeslty would have stuck with ferrari if not for melvin goh, he really knows how to treat his customers, and like toto mentioned u deal with the boss directly all the time and not the rest of the sales team.

guess i was just unlucky but my brand new 430 kept breaking down. even though i drove it often and serviced every 5k km.

no doubt the ferrari is easier to drive daily. but i will take the lambo for high speed runs on north south anytime, car feels alot more planted.

Yes i do miss my ferrari even though i had alot of problems with it, but at the same time i have no regrets trading it for the lambo..

either way no matter which you go for you cant really go very wrong. just make sure you buy a car that is still under warranty. my actuator problem on the 430 would have apparrently cost me about 30k. thank god for warranty :)

    my gt3rs is another problem...lol

Thanks Spar7 for sharing your experiences although LP570 (a gorgeous car by the way) vs F430 Spider is not really an apple to apple comparison.

But agree that both have their own merits so down to personal preferences really. Hmmm, I read that the F1 actuator cost much less than 30k though. So I guess buying the extended warranty is definitely worth a serious consideration!

my problem was the entire system. the pump...actuator etc.

honestly not much difference between the LP560 and 570. drove both cant really tell the difference...if i werent such a sucker for carbon fibre and the wing i would have gone for the 560.

and yes buy the extended warranty..you never know when you will need it and always better to be safer than sorry. :) small price to pay for a peace of mind :)

I'm a sucker for alcantara and CF bits too which probably explains why I am drawn to the G Superleggera (can't afford a LP570).

Does the SL come with regular 3point belt? Seat may not be as comfy as regular while the Scud came latter, so in a way more advance & younger. Hence the higher price.

MW offered me your RS but waiting for u :D

Anyway, was thinking about values. When my friend received the first Green RS, he told me he wouldn't sell it, think it was high $500~600K back then & it's just about $350K now. Almost 35% loss after 4yrs? Somewhat more for 430 & Gs while the heavy weight V12s tend to lose 50%. It's still not kind to the "rarer" cars such as lightweights & SEs. Probably a Singapore thing?

Shame that a car so young needs an overhaul of the transmission system. Could it be under-used? I find that cars are more reliable if we use it often.

Which reminds me, if any bros are interested. You can have my GTC while I'm away, the last time I was out for 3 weeks, a new battery was required + resetting the ECU & it's almost 3 weeks again

I'm also waiting for them to drop their price for their G Spyder. Ha ha....unless they do so, I'd go with either one of two other offers on hand.

I think not so much about rarity but stick shift (at least in the case of cars like the RS). Most buyers of cars these days don't like the clutch pedal. Real enthusiasts are the rare breed. In the case of Fs and Ls, it's a case of you wanna play you gotta pay. ;)

Can't blame em, stick shifts are a pain to sell in the exotic world.

They had a hard time selling Harold's RS till that "drunkard" walked in :D

I had several buyers came to see my then Murcie but all of them sigh when they saw a shiny metal ball on a stick. Do u know that I just found out a little privilege? I could drive & reverse with the doors up, especially while parking, something that the E-gear doesn't allow as the safety sensor would not engage gear!

I tend to think less of depre nowadays as the emotion is more important. If the car doesn't tug the heart, walk.
