Not if you read thru the article....that was last weeks news.

Dan Patrick is a senator on the Finance Committee, they are just carry his rec forward to delete it from THEIR budget.
He's from a Sports background oddly enough, used to be on TV in Houston (ball sports, mainly)

He owned a sports bar in West U village when I lived there. Is it still there? (The Gingerman was more fun!)

Bunnytrail aside, I do hope that the track is finished on time for its opening. I really am glad that F1 is finally going to be in the US. Now I can watch proper motorsport.

(NASCAR is ok live, NHRA is great, but there is something different about F1)

 

Same here! Unfortunately, it was sold off to AMLI I believe, to be dozed over for high rise condos. The building still stands due to the downturn of the economy. Glad it is still there. It's ~103 years old now and even used to be a brothel.

Just found out this morning, a buddy of mine was hired as the director of business development for Austin GP.

 

Neat. Who and how is his salary being paid??? I am all for this GP but jeez, it's not looking all that fantasterrific at the moment.

 

The google earth images as of march 10 show no fewer than 20 pieces of heavy equipment moving around the site. Many of the street pictures taken from the edge of the site show a sharp and rather dramatic uptick in the number of vehicles and heavy equipment seen in the satellite image.

 

U found the pic I posted in the 'google earth' thread under general automotive? How do you tell the date the pictures were taken?

 

bottom left of the image on google earth. google earth is a program you have to download, it's different than google maps.

I take back everything I've said. That's at least double what they had at Yas, and Yas took four times longer to build.

Yas is also in the desert which made building much, much more difficult. Yas also built a lot more than Texas is going to build for the race the first year.Oh and by the way they had Paki's and Indians not Mexicans. I'll put a team of Mexicans up against them any day of the week.

 

I think the only thing holding them up right now is the permits......

If they get this thing built it will be an awesome track.

 

That looks awesome. I'm not booking my flights for the race until we really see something tanglible, but I have all fingers, toes, etc. crossed.

From the pic I'm getting alittle flashback of Peraltada and Eau Rouge or is it just me?

 

IIRC, when the initial layout was published Herman (or his boys?) said this one was going to try and make use of other "great corners" - One example was turn 1 was modelled after Eau Rouge, but going the other way (!)......

Supposedly, there's (at least) parts of 120r, the old Woodcote and more going in........

Fingers crossed, but I'm not yet buying tix

I'll wait until the tick's actually go on sale but then again I'll be there 'frisking' so I'm keeping a positive outlook.

 

They should lower th track down and 'bank' that corner, shades of Riverside!!

 

They actually are "laying onto the land" for the most part....pushing dirt costs MONEY you know.....
