Attended the ALMS at Long Beach with the Ferrari of North America group and had an opportunity to view the Risi Competizione 458. The Risi Team Manager accommodated the group with a behind the scenes look.

It was very interesting to see the " significant " air intake restriction on the 458 !

Awesome pics thanks for sharing. The 458 just keeps getting better and better and has not reached it's full potential, next season should be a new show.

Can you tell us what's the final remaining output power with such air restriction?

I believe the power is around 470 bhp. Seems like the actual figures are hard to come by though.

It was mentioned in this past weekend's ALMS recap that the 458's have been 'brought into contention along the lines of it's competitor's' so they have lost atleast 100hp. Frankly I cannot comprehend the aspect of reducing a 'road going vehicles' power just to meet the rules. IMHO the rules need to be adjusted to meet what the factory supplies. Porsche has about 550hp w/AWD and the 458 has 570hp w/RWD, let them fricking race!!!

Oh and bring ALMS back to SPEED instead of the ESPN3 crap!!!!!!

I say make ESPN3 the new Speed. At least they show other racing besides constant Nascar shows.

Well the reason they do that is because there would be no competition. If you let them have the normal street power, you'd have the F458 Italia with 562 bhp, the Corvette ZR1 with 638 bhp, the Porsche with 550 bhp, the M3 with 414 bhp, the Jaguar with around 550 bhp. They would be all over the track, so spread out, with huge performance differences. It would be no fun to watch, and no teams would compete because there would be no chance of winning if you had a less powerful car.

ferrari is using standard air restrictors for their engine size in the gte class, the problem is that BMWs have lots and lots of rule breaks, and up until the end of last year ran above standard restrictors. for this season it is not known what the restrictor size of the bmw is.

We're racing against similar BMW's at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring and their specifications, restrictions are all public knowledge.

They are very good cars and will be hard to beat.

Their engine design seems much more suited to restriction than our F430 GT2 engine does.

In May we will race them in a 6 hour race at the Ring and the organisers will look at the results and telemetry and will decide on restrictions for the 24.

maybe the engine, but it is also public knowlige that the position of the transmition has to remain the same on the race car as well as on the rouad car, also when the BMW was introduced the rules also stated that the engine had to be placed in exacly the same place as the road car, I would like to see someone in a road BMW m3 install those huge wholes in their bonnet right where the engine should be. I is also comon knowlige that when introduced both the corvette and bmw had a ton of waivers handed to them!

All true. Sad that the Risi 458's won't be at Le Mans. I hope a 458 shows up to race us at the 24 of Nurburgring.
