I would appreciate any help finding a 355 roll cage that I could install. I have noticed some of these cages have parts that can be removed for an easier install (bolted together at various points)........

    Thanks,

    Tim

The Challenge roll cages do not meet the safety standards of any of the race sactioning bodies.

Good advice guys! I will probably make one...I have a company in Denver that does extraordinary work in the racing world and customizes roll cages, adds powder coating, rolls the corners nicely.....they are great. I had thought that the Challenge cages might be an easier pathway but your advice is well received.

    Thanks to all...

Braden does really nice work, however if you are going to seriously track the car go with the shop in Denver or Dave Helms in Boulder(he has a tubing bender for roll cages),

Take it to an upholstery shop and have them cover it in matching leather. IIRC, there are at least two guys in this section with OEM leather covered roll bars.

BTW, Dave Helms is a God among we mere mortals..... :)

The 355 Challenge cages were illegal in SCCA for awhile, but a local guy got them to allow them again. That said I would go with custom welded cage. You get it safer and better fit, my cage is either hidden (like through the dash) or flush to maximize room. I would also go with NASCAR bars and bottom should be welded to bottom door frame for most protection (I didn't do this, but should have). I have my passenger side safe as driver with NASCAR bars, racing seat, window net, and 5 point.

It must be great having a F355 Challenge car to rip around the track. Hows the maintenance costs, Rob? I like to do most of my own work, but I would shudder to think how fast you could chew-up parts, tires, etc., on the track.

more durable as a race car than the Mazdas I raced and the Mazdas were more race durable than most other makes.

of course engine rebuilds expensive, but my motor is strong as it was in 2003. I did do a top end 2 years ago that wasn't cheap.

rear wheel bearings are weak on the car if running new slicks. those use to be cheap parts, now they are $1,700 from Ferrari. you can avoid losing them if maintaining every few races, you can also rebuild them better than they were stock if you don't let get too bad.

A Brembo rotor with pads prebedded is about $1,100 with all the parts from Ferrari. Less expensive alts out there like Girodisc that use to be a sponsor.

Body work any shop can do and cheaper unlike the 360 and 430.

Your cage is beautiful...reminds me of several racers I have had the privilege of driving. The NASCAR door areas are well done. Overall, very sweet! Thanks for the photos....this gives me several ideas to work with my fabricator.
