For the sake of entertainment, what are people's thoughts. Price points, $300k for a 458 Italia, $414k for an Aventador. Yes, nobody's driven an Aventador, and yes the 458 is not a direct competitor of the LP700, but they are both company's top of the line mid-engined sports car, not so differently priced (in terms of how much you have to pay to actually get one in a reasonable amount of time) and this is the internet, and we can do these impossible things. Thoughts?
I like the new Lambo. How it performs really doesn't matter much because none of these make any sense for the road anyway. Chosing between super cars is more a matter of taste than performance to most people who buy them. But, I like the moderization of the Countach look and the new CF method to make the body. It's not perfect -- I'm still not in love with the front -- but the 458 isn't perfect either. This Lambo does what I would expect all good Lambo's to do -- be over the top wild. Looking at it, I would say they got that part right. Would I buy one? No. It's too far gone for me. But, I can certainly appreciate anyone buying one. It's a nice looking car and fits well in the Lamborghini image.
As you said, they are not direct competitors, I would go 458 vs. Gallardo! But anyways, acorrding to my taste, I would go with a Ferrari anytime over a Lambo (Any Model or Year)***, I do not like cars that look like Bat-Mobiles! Ferraris have more class, they pass CLASS to the eye of the beholder, it is like comparing a feminine sexy woman with a female muscular body builder! I am for the first type . . . Greetz, Joseph ***The only Lambo that I consider classy and timeless is the MUIRA!
It's the first lambo since the countach (when I was a kid) that I like the looks of. But I wouldn't buy one. I would like a friend to get one...so I can take it for a drive once in a while...like a boat. I don't want to own it but going out once in a while can be fun.
A typical 458 with the most common options comes in at about $270K. I would think the typical Aventador would come in close to $470. It's sort of like comparing apples to oranges at that price. You can get a new 458, a used F430 spider and a good 308 for that much money. I really wonder how big the market is for a car costing almost half a million and depreciating as rapidly as the Murci has.
as you said they really aren't direct competitors. 458 is a cheetah and the aventador is a rhino. Both intimidating and can easily kill you but in very different ways I prefer the raw aggressiveness of lambos more than the refined sensuality of Ferrari so I would take the aventador
agree. very different cars, 'missions' in their design. but...that 'rhino' lambo with a monster NA V-12 is very close in wgt to that 'cheetah' plus 100+ more horses and you can guess how fast it is. i want both!
i'll chime in. again, easy...get BOTH! two awesome cars, two distinct flavours, but both 21st century hotrods. but if you HAD to choose, if you were soooo 'poor' that you could only get one 400+ grand car..hmm..me, i go with a GTO..maybe.
Yeah, I was thinking about this disparity at first, and that you aren't supposed to compare them, but the difference in real world pricing isn't as much as I had originally thought. The cost of a 458 Italia with all extra fittings (sound system, rear camera, magnaride, etc.) runs around $290k MSRP. To get one at that price you're also looking at a 1-3 year waitlist + 3-6 month build time depending on where you live, and in most cases you would have had to have bought a Ferrari previously used to get on the list. For a first time buyer, a used $290k MSRP 458 with sub 1000 miles would probably cost around $320k. The LP700, fully optioned up, is surprisingly not particularly expensive relative to its base price. Every box ticked you're looking at $414k (hence how I arrived at that number) and can be had within 6 months if you call around. So realistically we're talking about a $94k difference which, although a lot, isn't a huge deterrent for folks in the market for a mid-engined supercar in the $300k+ range. Whatever the case may be, although they shouldn't be compared, we'll compare them nonetheless
Based on historical numbers mixed with claimed numbers from Ferrari and Lamborghini? Between the Ferrari FF, historical 599 numbers, Aventador, Rolls Royce, Maybach (all cars in a similar ~$400k price bracket), probably around 4000/year, with ~600 going to Lamborghini, ~500 to Maybach, ~1000 to Rolls Royce, and the remainder going to Ferrari.
One thing I've never liked about the 599 vs Lambo V12 comparison is that those two cars are far more different than the Ferrari V8's and the Lambo V12's in purpose. The 599 (non-GTO) and Aventador are about as similar as the 458 and the Ferrari California. Same cylinder count, different purpose. It wasn't all that long ago that Lambo didn't even make anything but their V12's.
sounds like you're leaning towards the Lambo if you have the means, go for it, enjoy the crap out of it while you can. fantastic hardware. good luck with the choice.
there was a thread a while back that touched on a juicy proposition: 458 or Porsche CGT. prices are starting to climb back up for the CGT, but it's some serious hardware and driving experience for the low to mid 300's it's commanding. if i had that green, it would be my first choice
Here in NZ the price difference is much narrower so the choice is harder. 458 is $525,000 base and Aventador is $675,000. Each needs about $40,000 of options. I go back and forth in my mind (for now) but give the edge to the Aventador as it is so much more car for not much more cash.
That thing is seriously menacing. And good luck finding someone who can actually drive it to even half of its capability, especially on the street. That being said, I actually like it much more than the Murci. So...this is Lambos new 12-banger, while us Tifosi get the effing FF...
I have a 458 too and msrp was at $307K and change. I've also spec'd out an Aventador. I didn't "tick every box" and msrp was $414K. Definitely 2 absolutely different cars, will be the hottest 2 IMO when aventador hits the streets. I hope to be able make enough moves in time so I can have the Bull & Stallion living in peace & harmony together in my garage. However, if I fall short, I will be saying farewell to the 458 and going with the LP700.
The 458 is US$785k and LP700 US$1.133m in Singapore. I love the LP 700 but am a bit late as there is already a 2 year waiting list. Currently enjoying my 458 but would consider the LP 700 if not for the long waiting list. Seen the car a couple of months ago and it looks HOT!!
