Reconstructed title

Just depends on the extent of the damage and how well it was repaired. But the
price would have to be VERY VERY GOOD for me to do it. That title is a killer to any
resale value. I'd want to have my own Ferrari mechanic go over it with a fine-tooth
comb - I wouldn't trust a PPI from an unknown shop.

If the last service was in 2007 it will need to be done again right away - $5000 or so.
Be sure that the seller factors that in as well.

But if the price is crazy low, and all else checked out, I'd probably go for it if I were looking.

The only questions I would have were what was the extent of the damages and how well the repairs were done. It's hard to say if the cost to repair was more then the owner had it insured for thus the need for a rebuilt title or was it a flood car. So either do some due diligence or pass it buy. My 2 cents

 

Well, then it's really down to how well the repairs were done. Having a clean
title will certainly be a plus when you go to sell it someday.

But don't forget the major service that's past due (3 years, 30k miles, per Ferrari)
That'll run $5k or so at a shop, $2k or less if you do it yourself. But the seller should
make a price concession for it either way.

A rebuilt title is at least a 30% whack to its 'normal' sales level.

An owner who says it's NOT rebuilt but AutoCheck says it is can indicate one of three things -

1. Owner didn't know when he bought it.
2. AutoCheck has screwed up royally.
3. Owner knew and attempted to disguise past.

As others have said, quality is most important here. An experienced overview warranted.

 

This is really a dumb conversation . Just look at the title and see what it says. Then go from there.

 

Important! Not mentioned yet! INSURANCE.

Many insurance companies will not insure a Salvage/Rebuilt title car. Their opinion is: It has already been paid out in full once it cannot be again. They will insure liability, possibly comprehensive, but NOT collision. I discussed this with Nationwide just a couple months ago and they will not fully insure a rebuilt/salvage title car.

Second, The title may not show the salvage/rebuilt status. The owner may have the original title from before it was listed as a salvage title car, and subsequent titles may actually show what the "old" title does not.

Be very careful on this one. Do your homework, this may be a time to trust Autocheck and Carfax. Good luck.

 

IMHO I would pass this up. This will seem like a boat anchor around your neck when it comes time to sell it. If it doesn't have "before" pictures do not believe about 75% of what your told about the accident as its always described as "minor damage" There are alot of 308s out there in the 25k range that you could purchase, drive and if/when the time comes to sell still get your purchase price back. 2cts.

 

Yes they will insure it. Maybe nationwide wont but that does not mean a previous salvage titled car can be fixed, Inspected and put back on the road.

If not how in the hell does the Collision industry make so much money!!!!

 

Will your insurance company cover it for collision? Have you asked? Be sure before you buy. I asked specifically, I know.

 

Never mind what I said just keep trusting carfax and auto check.


But please tell me who your carrier is that said this to you so we all can know.

And I have never asked mine because all of my cars so far have been un-wrecked cars. But Ill check for you and see what I can come up with as far as who does.
