Took delivery of the parts car last week. A sad story--a once-beautiful car wrecked by a red-light runner. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This has been an all consuming project for you has it not? It reminds me of when I built my house back in the mid 1990's. I'm not a big Seinfeld fan but the story about the soup Nazi and accepting money explains an interesting mental case I came across here in the NYC area. For a time I would "experience" a certain toll taker who would refuse to accept the turnpike ticket with a dollar bill and 40 cents all in one motion. He even pushed it out of my hand and onto the ground once. Another time after an argument ensued I just threw it at him and drove off. He must have it on his TV 24/7/365? I'm sticking with the preservation class thing on mine. It's completely different type of thing but not so easy either. I think the color is great Gary. It's your car and it's not like you picked something completely disgusting. There ARE some are combinations out there which I just can't stomach and some of them are on multi hundreds of thousand dollar restorations too. That "glass roofed" Espada that I looked so closely at had the original blue shag carpet. Absolutely correct, original but disgusting and poorly installed. I don't think there is a "good" way to install material like that on a car. I understand that Bary B. put a complete new interior ion that car sans the shag ... That car was beyond preservation class material except for the paint. Interesting as it was I'm glad I lost out on that one. I've never seen an orange car that looked good to me either. Maybe a pumpkin colored Porsche or Miura. But some do and Lamborghini certainly did some like that. That's why they had so many color combinations isn't it? You're good on the color front. You need to put together a nice set of pictures once you're ready. I'm sure people will be impressed. I think my masonite piece needs a couple of spine stiffeners? A piece of carbon fiber might be perfect but perhaps expensive? When I looked there were clearance issues with using something like a piece of aluminum angle. I still need to do one rear seat bottom on mine. Did you have to do anything with the basic seating cushions? Mine appear to be injection molded items from Pirelli. Where are you sending your tranny to get the synchros installed? It's brake and clutch mater rebuild time for me. Have you done those yet? The information over on the VLG is quite confusing on this subject. When you look through the references and on places like Ebay it looks like there might have been several versions or people's data on this is just faulty? It doesn't engender a warm fuzzy feeling. I have enough of the "didn't fit" parts laying around now.
OUCH! What a shame. Anyone we know from VLG . It always makes me extremely nervous when I have to drive in congested areas close in to NYC. Nice ones are very hard to replace. BTW, I'm looking for a battery cover if you have and feel like parting with one?
Hi All, Thanks for the post about the Espada I had for sale. I confirm the history from this car with Tonino Lamborghini in the 90s, Olivier Namèche who came to me in March to inspect the Espada, also got the confirmation directly from Tonino. The car is sold and on the way to Germany. Good luck for you book Olivier. All the best, Florent
to the gent that has the parts car I would love to purchase the spare tire hold down and any tools you might want to part with... Gary series 2 8394
Bob I saved the original leather skin from the seat back and bottom from the seat behind the driver. I can bring it down to Pocono and give it to you there. Hopefully you can get your leather guy to take all ness measurements from that. as far as the tranny is concerned "Ugo the X factory mechanic living and working in the Toronto area at the ripe old age of 78 will tackle my syncros shortly... Gary
oh one more thing Bob re the cushions. when the leather was removed the cushions fell apart just like they emptied a bag of popped popcorn all over the cars interior. the old skins which were intact by the way provided the basis for the formation of new foam on all 8 pieces. no easy feat I am sure . A real fine mess... Gary. 8394
That would be great Gary! I hope to see you there. Different location this year but not far from the last place. So it sounds like I'll be rebuilding the foam then. That's OK.
I took these pics today, it should be finished in the next couple of weeks. Will then be able to show it off properly Lynne Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The engine of the green car came out today. Now attention turns to stripping the parts car. To those who have inquired about parts, give me a couple of weeks to get into the car and figure out what's there and what I need.
