Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

The FIAs calendar normally is leaked in October and finalized in December. By then we will also know whether this GP is for real or not.

No point in looking for tickets before year end

I don't know. Seems they should be farther along than that given what a finished modern F1 circuit looks like these days (Korea excepted). Also, I added the F1 Austin Facebook page & all their posts are about race recaps & historic videos. I rarely see any info that, at this point, should be flooding out regularly about their progress.

That's pretty impressive progress for a project that was announced 11 months ago...

For you Autoweek subscribers, they mentioned in an article that Carlos Slim (aka richest man in the world) has visited the Austin GP site several times and counts Tavo Hellmund as a close advisor and friend. Take it for what its worth.

If true that's a big deal. If Slim gets on board with Austin it will definitely be on for 2012.
There's been recent discussion of Señor Slim and Rupert Murdoch buying F1, so who knows.

Have you seen pics of the Indian track? They seem to be moving quite nicely.

I completely forgot they are building too. Weird that there is no hate directed there... Looking at those pictures I'd say Austin is looking in a good way

Ah yes, that would be Carlos Salinas de Gortari that sold a lot of Mexico's assets to privateers.

That's like saying your obese one-legged one-eyed stinky ill-tempered girlfriend is a prime catch compared to Liz Taylor (in current condition). :D

They haven't lost the funding at all. It has only been brought up in the senate finance bill (which has yet to even get out of committee.....)
