I think I have finally traced a small annoying rattle in one of the 2 valves that control the flow of the exhaust. I am now hearing it all the time and even when the engine is dead cold, if I tap it (the one on the RHS) it makes a metallic noise whereas the other one on the opposite side is solid as a rock. More apparent is during a gear change shift or simply a backoff over run or even a rev when still as the revs subside. I tried to put a mirror under the valve to see if it can be tightened or whatever but it seems to me to be not that problem but the actual round little unit itself which looks all sealed. Has anyone else had this occur? Any advice appreciated. The car is a Nov 07 F1 with almost 5K miles now. Rob.
Had this same problem and the dealer put on new exhaust tips. It was hard to believe it was the tips causing it but hey, it was fixed.
Rob, I'm affraid the rattle comes from inside the exhaust pipe where the valve is located. You can still try to lubricate the external parts of the valve actuator with WD40 and see if this may reduce the rattle. If not, the only solution I can see would be to replace the RHS tips which will have a new internal valve.
Cheers mates but I should have mentioned that it has a Tubi fitted and that a tapping on the valve seems almost 100% to be where it is eminating from. Would this then eliminate the exhaust tip? Rob
Checked with Ferrari and my extension "Power Normal" warranty doesn't include the exhaust system which is a bit annoying. Is this only an Aussie situation or is this world wide?
I'm on my third set of tips. Actually the part they replace are a lot more than tips, but it's all connected. Crazy...
Unfortunately Rob, this is normal. That's why I stopped paying Power warranties because the Power Normal doesn't include the exhaust and many other things which may fail like the F1 hydraulic pump. Power Normal is slightly better than Power Train. It covers in addition the suspension and electronic systems. But that's it...
i think your valve is going to broke,it happen to me that when i change mine F430 to kreissieg exhaust for a few months.... that incident happen to me
Took the car into Ferrari this avo and it is not the exhaust nor the bi-pass valve...phew! There is so much metal in there with a challenge grille that everything rattles. The hatch, the lock mechanism, the small metal air deflectors in behind the challenge grille on either side of the central lock, the heat shields....got to suffer it so turn up the radio. The vibration noise which is what it is could be anything and is only noticeable on back off or when the exhaust makes the car labour when held in a gear...eg traffic congestion. Trait of Ferrari ownership I guess. Rob.
Also got various buzzes and light rattles from the engine bay which comes and goes. Nature of the beast, you know.
I notice rattles and buzzes also inside the cabin that the Tubi brings out for sure...nature of the steed.
I had ratteling valves on my standard 2008 exhaust. Before I changed it all. Made a fix with a small spring - hooked in the valve axle and hooked in a small drilled hole in the al.crossmember. The spring was located in the direction of the valve axle - son no spring forces to interfear with opening and closing of valve. Worked perfectly - but is areal fix. Cheap one. //Anders
No sorry. Didn´t take any picture. Long ago and forgotten. Capristo time is here. Got a set of new Fabspeed tubes with valves if someone is interested. //A.
Found it. If you look closely to this picture you can se a small drilled hole in the rear crossmember. If you buy a week spring and fix it in this hole and the lever - you will bring a small force to the valves axle. Since it is in the direction of the axle it will not interfear with the function of the valve but will bring the ratteling butterly pressed to one side. This was before I took it all out and put Capristo all in. I have set of Fabspeed unused pipes and valves laying here and also 2 new Capristo valves that could be welded in on a standard tub. If someone is interested. //Anders Image Unavailable, Please Login
I need new glasses as I can't see where this small hole and the spring is on your picture...even after watching it for 15 min
