A very brief update today - I managed to get some more satin black so gave the diffuser a final coat of paint and then removed the masking. I'm hopeful that the powder coater will be finished with the rear grill and expansion tank so I can get it all back together soon.

This picture makes the paint finish look a bit orange-peely but it's super smooth in real life. I'm very pleased with the result especially as I've not tackled body work for over 12 years.

Super interesting thread. This quote reminds me of a thread from a couple years ago. A couple people, who only ran their cars in the dry, remove their wipers, so the car will look better.

Then there was some discussion of using RainX in lieu of wipers. The conclusion though I think, for me, was that even in the dry, some emergency could make the lack of wipers dangerous.

Too bad they don't fold better out of view.

Thanks. What work have you managed to complete?

Thank you - I'm very pleased with the finish.

Thanks. It rains a lot here in the UK so running without wipers is just silly.

Beautiful work, the diffuser looks flawless :)

Actually, did you get the car for a really good deal,
or where you simply surprised by all the work that has to be done to it?

By the way, driving without wipers is silly, even in the midst of a dry desert ;)

    Greetz,

Thank you. I did get the car for a very good price - I cannot say how much as the details are confidential. I also knew exactly what needed doing on the car prior to buying it - I spent a good four hours inspecting it and I was lucky enough to know the workshop who had looked after the car for the past few years. I also knew the trader who sold me the car - it has now been through his hands I think about five times if you include the sale to me. To top it off the past three owners are all members of a certain UK based owners club and I have been in contact with them.

Underneath it is a very solid car, it just needs a little tidying up to get it to my standard.

Hehehe . . . I did not want any numbers,
how much people earn or pay is none of my business,
    I have the full understanding ;) :)

Sounds good then, if you knew about the ticks and flaws in advance,
when you are done, you will have a car that you know Screw for Screw *Thumbs Up*

    Greetz,

I managed to stop off at the powder coater and pick up my bits. I'm very, very pleased with the finish and only £30 for the grill - got to be one of the best bargains I've secured for the car. These are the people I used: www.nspcoatings.co.uk

It didn't take long to refit the badge, lights and wiring looms and I spent some time running the die over the threads just to make sure all the paint was gone.

I also got the coolant expansion tank poder coated - cost £20. As above, the finish is excellent. There is still some media in the tank from when it was blasted - I got most of it out by flushing through with a hose but some remains. It's drying out in the airing cupboard and I'll use the vacuum on it when it's dry to make sure it is all gone - don't really want it floating around in the cooling system!

Next up was the rear challenge grill. When I removed it about million half washers fell out that were spacing it. For some reason when fitted without them it sits too far into the body but it wasn't difficult to sort out - I used whole washers instead of half ones.

I'm so pleased with the way it looks and lifts the rear of the car - it had gone matt and was looking very tired but now it looks brand new.

The rear part of your car looks perfect, especially the powder coated grill :)
Anything else, or you're done for now?

I don't think I'll ever be done! I think this is going to turn into a monster project...

I'm sure we have the same passion for Ferrari's - I have just bought a car that needs tidying up and happen to love tinkering. Thanks for the compliments!

I think what you should do now is powder-coating the air-boxes in black ;)

Thanks - I have plans for the rest of the engine bay. Watch this space.

I have thought about it but there are other priorities at the moment. Maybe later...
