Thanks for the support. Your car was great for starters. If a wreck came along, I am sure it would still bring a good 50% of what you paid, restoration would be double and the total investment would be roughly what you are laying out. And besides, Ferrari didn't build that many 275 GTBs !!!! Now its a matter of time !!

Hi David, Thank you, I am overwelmed by the support and constantly amazed by the number of people following the thread, it grows every day!
I love that little model - its got to be the only 275GTB in the world that is made of more plastic than my car (before the restoration that is!).

    many thanks Mark

Not worried Mark, I can see your car is in very capable hands, and more importantly it has an owner who appreciates and respects the art of proper restoration! Best, Mike

Good Evening, just a few picture, where the guys continue to test fit the rear lights.
If you recall from an earlier picture (below) i had the wrong period of rear lights fitted, think mine were from a later 275GTB/4 - fortunately the guys in Italy managed to find me a perfect set of original short nose rear lights - absolutely delighted!
Crazy as it may sound, this was one of the things that really bugged me about the car right from day one.
for reference: My old incorrect lights had rectangular centre reflectors, proper lights now have the small round centre.

you can also see in that last picture that pretty much all the MIG spot welds have been seam welded and metalise to give the perfect finish - you can no longer see that joint on that rear panel where the old and the new metal is butted together.

This is the process that Mike Regalia was pointing out earlier, and as he says the only way to get real integrity in the metal and the perfect finish that will last long enough for wee Boris to be posing down the Kings Road in many years to come!

The team also managed to get the boot lid fitting perfectly, the lock was refitted to make sure all the mechanism lined up ok.
Note the lock button has been stripped ready for re-chroming.

Thanks for the clarification - easier said than done, I'm sure!

So, I guess you would want to leave some margin on both components to allow for the final trimming/grinding, yes?

BTW, nice job documenting everything 275GTB.

    thanks Alberto,
You can see why the wrong lights originally on the car bugged me so much from day one.

Also thats why you should beware of the crap that is offered on ebay as genuine Ferrari parts!

    cheers Mark

Thanks David, don't know about a ride, but Joe is talking about doing an open day down the garage when the car is nearly done, so all the FerrariChat members can come down and see the facilities - also the California, Daytona and a few of the Dino's will be back in London by then - I will keep everyone posted as things get organised. Probably in June or July.

Yes Wimbledon Village is my local hang out, very good pubs for sure. the place becomes mega during the tennis, its a fantastic few weeks. We normally have one of your Auzzie tennis players stay with us will playing at SW18, we are good friends with Samantha Stosur and her crew.

    cheers Mark

Mark, I popped into Joe Macari's at the weekend, was near by so didn't have a chance to contact you first otherwise perhaps we could have met.

OMG - what a place !!! It's not just a garage, more a Formula 1 pit lane, the set up was awe-inspiring. No wonder you use that place.
Those guys know their stuff and were really nice too.

Ferrari like any other car company buys as muny standard parts as they can to save money. Perhaps you all remember when Aston Martin was criticised for using Ford Mondeo stalk controls. That is the nature of low volume car makers.

I too "check in" with this thread almost every day,
    especially since the progress seems so fast;
    days instead of years.

This is a "lifetime memory" thread.

I have restored quite a few motorcycles, but never a car.

    The care is the same:
The research, the hunt for parts,
    proper colors, correct bits, etc.

The car is far more work - and I suspect expense.

What you have done is make this 275 into
    "MY FERRARI"

If you want, I hope the finished product will be
the pride of your garage for the rest of your life.

    Enjoy every moment.

    Scott

    Hi Mark

Like everyone else I have been following this thread with interest and admiration for all concerned.

I think it would be great if you could persuade Joe to get a group picture of the team working on the body so that we can see what these real craftsmen look like.
