Victor, You know what I think I am really worked up about? I asked for some help, even showing pictures of what I needed. I know there are several people on here with 79,80 or 81 LP400S cars, BUT so far NOT ONE of them has taken the time to help me out. That sticks in my craw, as I am always here, trying to help anyone needing it, BUT when I need help, well that is another story. I even wrote one person directly and he is super into Lambo and what do you know, never heard anything from him, yet he is on here all the time. Whenever he needed help, I spent many a phone call doing what I could for him. Am I unhappy, yep you could say so. Chadbourn Bolles Chad, No need to get worked up, as the cars you saw were 5000S cars, and they are a totally different animal. IMO, the 5000S cars all came with the bigger carbs. Makes sense to
Well....give em a little more time, as sometimes people have to remember, then go out to the car, which may be in a remote location, and then measure... I bet sooner or later you will get your measurements, but it may take a little time! I may see a S1 tomorrow if my friend brings it to lunch and I'll see if I can help too.
No problem. I got the "cool white" in the 90 degree beam. 9 bulbs will do all the gauges. 11 will do the low fuel light and the low oil pressure light. I didn't replace those 2, as they were bright enough. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FWLED-x4.htm Mike
My dash is apart as we speak, wondering it I should do it. If I wait and do it myself, was it a ***** to do. Also, I agree with Chad. He has posted this question here, LP, VLG. Sometimes this board and the other one are all over a question that results in several pages. Then there are times that it is a ghost town and the picture and question (which sometimes are so damn simple) falls several pages back keeps falling unanswered. Sometimes the questions are real technical, to the point where even I am barely able to understand, and I'm amazed at all the knowledge. I also agree with Victor and hope that time is all that is needed. And I'm not agreeing with Chad just because he has my Jarama sitting in his shop But I am agreeing with Chad because he is there for most every question.....I think all will agree with that.
Also, Chad, is this the Countach you picked up last year? If so, where are you at with it? Pictures? Anything interesting to report on it?
For me, the hardest was the fuel gauge. Its the farthest away! I thought about taking the radio out, and you could just reach right up there and change that one! But I did it the hard way. ;-) The Tach, Speedo and Oil pressure were very easy!!! I can tell you one thing, the only way I could change any of them, was to lay in the seat on my back with my head down in the footwell looking up! One thing I did find which made it easy to get my big hands up in there to change out the Water temp gauge bulb and Fuel gauge bulb, was to remove these 3 screws which allows you to move this panel forward an inch or two which more than you'll need to fish your hands up behind that gauge cluster. Peter, yes it is. Progress, engine is out and being rebuilt from one end to the other, everything that has any wear is being replaced. One thing though, when it is done, the ign. will be Electromotive XDI., to me much more reliable than the old original distributors. It will have the original distributors mounted, but just for show. Chad, You should have PM'd me. I just assumed that those with more experience than myself would have chimed in.... On Friday I will put one on the lift and get some measurements....and get you calmed down Brian
That's great. You should post details, for posterity. Edit: never mind, looks like others beat me to it and you posted the reference.
Chad: Life is way too short to be unhappy with the community in general about the lack of immediate response to Countach measurements. Whilst extolling the virtues of patience, I estimate that there are a number of reasons that you have not had a swift response to your request for the aforementioned measurements from the faithful. Perhaps the custodians of these cars are far too busy making the kind of money which affords them ownership in the first place? Or, they have a life which extends beyond the realm of the Countach world? Or, 1979 Countachs are just super-rare and the chances of one being around are, well, slim to nothing! At any rate, we cant have you sulking any longer so I took the opportunity of a break from reading the Louisville weather report (Kentucky Derby is coming up) to retire into the inner sanctum of the garage whereupon I encountered an LP400S S1, the Holy Grail of S cars. Imaged below is what I could see in the dim lighting, and my amateurish measuring skills determined that the rod from (rubber) boot to boot is 8 ins and from mounting point to mounting point is 12 ins. Hope this information helps and I will attempt the front end another time when I have better lighting. Best Image Unavailable, Please Login
I could be mistaken as Chad's request was somewhat vague but I believe he is looking for the length of a lower control arm tube (from locknut to locknut).
Hi Chad, i replaced these on my QV88.5 with remanufactured tubes (and the heim joints). Originals are very thin metal as you probably know. My ones are:-260mm - lock nut to lock nut as the italians would have measured them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is this LP400 1120080?? I think not ... PS:The Car is in France,400TZ54. Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very interesting contrast! The 59' Cadillac, the bigest wings of American Car history; and the an orginal LP400 Countach. Not many images includes these two historic cars together!
I greatly disagree. I have an 80 LP400s and an 82 LP 5000s. The 400s (#1121240) was built late 79 (S2? S3?), big carbs (45DCOE) and is much lower and lighter than my 5000s. While I cannot compare it to a 911 turbo of the same vintage, I have a 91 euro spec Testarossa which the LP simply eats alive. The TR runs well, but above 4000 rpm the LP 400s is far quicker.
Joe posted theese pics before as i can remember, cant find them now thu. I belive #1120080 is still in Japan.
Oh oh oh, I love that, please elaborate on your 400S ;-) I do have a Testarossa, ... while I'm in love since I'm a kid with the Countach : still trying to figure out which one is the most accessible but "guaranteed" no regrets ...
Chad, Here's the measurement for distance you wanted in the front trunk floor. The tape measure is laying there so you see the distance to whatever part of the item you want to know. This was taken off of an S1 today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
In my file your #112-1240 is the 270th Countach ever produced, nero/bianco sold to Rarewala-USA on 12th January 1981, is it what you meant ?
