I need to replace one set of boots on my 308 and wanted to know if there is any update on what is the best parts to use. I've read that Porsche part number 928 332 924 02 is a viable alternate to the Ferrari part 95860404. EBay is selling them at this link but I'd probably look locally at a Porsche parts place as I need a set by this weekend to get it done.

If anyone can confirm this is or is not a good way to go I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Bob

I looked into this for my 328 (the engine is out at the moment) & to be honest I didn't find a huge difference in the cost of just buying the boots & clamps from Ferrari (so that's what I did). What will cost you a bundle if you need to replace them is the nuts & bolts so go carefully when you try & undo them & soak them in penetrating fluid for a day or two before you try.

I'm planning on using Redline CV2 grease - the 328 WS manual says 140g per joint.

I wouldn't mess around with this. Last year, I needed to do my boots and I wasted a lot of time looking for a Porsche replacement. Following the advise of different fchat posts, I bought a set of Porsche boots only to discover that they wouldn't work. The problem is that the boots had a half round protrusion around the small end which presumably mates to a groove on the CV flange. On my 308, there is no groove. I ended up buying a set of boots from http://www.allferrariparts.com part CVK4. $66 for a set of 4 boots with grease and clamps. You won't find a better price anywhere, even for Porsche boots.

Thanks for your insight Eric. You are right - more than you may know. I checked in with a local Porsche dealer - $54 + tax for ONE boot! Ferrari of Beverly Hills wants $240 for a pair!

Dennis' kit is a real deal. I just placed the oder with (his wife?). I'm even having it sent overnight and it is still under $100 total cost with shipping - for the whole 4 boot kit!

$24 for 4 boots, $10 for CV grease, a few bucks for the bands (buy for whatever banding tool you have), and some gasoline to clean out the old grease and away you go.

If this is indeed the correct Porsche part number, it should go in the parts sticky. I came across at least three different part numbers in different threads. Apparently, I picked the wrong number. Live and learn!

I do recall a few threads with conflicting information, and I also recall buying a kit that came with the bands that required some crazy ass banding tool, so I returned it and just bought the parts ala carte. That part number above is correct.

I also purchased the wrong porsche part. Fortunately my shop said they had the right ones on hand and they could use the ones I purchased so they swapped them straight across for me.
