very cool, and yet another thread filled with pissing and moaning by those who did not know it was rare and with the coveted race history so many are jealous of. I am so glad a true enthusiast got that car. too many keyboard cowboys who want brand new 40 years old cars. got to drive them to enjoy them guys, all that diaper polishing it a waste of life. bravo GermanDino !!!!!
I guess the latter was true. Well done Matthias! You pulled one over on the rest of us and it could not have gone to a more deserving guy.
#00306 arrived in Germany today. Slightly damaged in the front. By surprise the engine runs . It´s going to be a big project to bring the car back to Sebring specifications. I won`t seriously start the restoration before the end of this year, but might start searching for some missing parts over the coming weeks. Unfortuately a few things are missing.... The good thing is the car has matching numbers. It still has the original engine and gearbox. I think the car wasn`t on the road for many many years, at least 12 years. 61.000 Km on the clock seems realistic. The spare wheel has still the old Goodyear race tyre on. "Goodyear 5.50/9.20-14 Blue Streak Sports Car Special" Can anybody with racing expierence tell if these tyres are still avaiable? Best photos so far... Try: http://www.racegoodyear.com/tires/pdf/sports_web_04072011.pdf Kind regards, Alberto
You are welcome Matthias. You can also try Avon. They can be hand grooved to like like the Blue Streaks. Not much of a solution, but possibly the only choice. Dunlop is the only other possibility. Regards, Alberto
yes, Avon are on the car right now, looks good, but I would love to have the original tyres from the Sebring race... ;-)
Get in touch with: Roger Kraus - http://www.rogerkrausracing.com/ Tell him what you are doing, and if he can, he will help you. Otherwise, e-bay, or vintage racing groups' blogs. There is always someone that has old racing tires lying around. I still have some new 1973 Dunlop racing tires for my Alfa, for static display...unfortunately too big for your installation, and in 13" wheel Dia. Regards, Alberto
Goodyear has a dedicated Vintage Racing Tire distribution network. "Google" will take you right to it... The racing tire department director's name is Stu Grant.
Congratulations, Matthias. There was this one 206 for sale here in Tokyo, which I happened to see when I drove by the shop. Stopped by to take a look, but was sold already. w/ smiles Jimmy
I have his number......maybe you can ship me some FULDAS.....LOL! j/k Goodyear sends them over......but they only make my size once a year....
Matthias- Congrats. I was offered the car for $86K and passed on it. I bought a 250 Lusso from the same outfit... Geno
Hello Bubba, Goodyear 5.50/9.20-14 Blue Streak Sports Car Special how can I order these tyres? I would love to buy 4 new once. Do you have a contact at Goodyear for me? What do they cost? Please PM me. I couldn`t PM you because mail seems to be ful ;-) Regards Matthias
I found the original colour today. Between the headrests and the rear window the original colour can be still seen. Blu Notte Metallizzato 106-A-31 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Matthias, congratulations with finding this car, also lucky thing for us Dinolovers that this Dino came into the hands of the person who is probably one of the only few, who can bring this car back to its raceconfiguration, I look forward to see the car when it is ready.
Congratulations Matthias, glad to hear of the significance of this car. It was just 2 hours up the road from me this whole time! Lesson learned about judging books by their covers. Good luck!
Rob, thanks for your support. I talked to both driver, Sam Posey and Bob Dini, recently. Both confirmed that #00306 was a usual 206 GT and that the car received only a few changes from the standard set up to be prepared for the 12 hours Sebring race. Bumpers removed, roll bar put in, headlamp covers, Goodyear race tyres, NART stripes and additional Marchal headlights. Sam wasn`t very impressed by the performance of the car. Bob remenbers problems with overheating the engine, but managed to cool it down. The car was put into racing to promode the new model. The aim was to bring it over the finish line. They succeeded and finished 36th over all and became second in their group. Unfortuately both drivers haven`t any race pictures of the car. What I`m really looking for now is a picture of the driver side and the back of the car. Any help appreciated. Does anybody know anybody who took pictures of the 12 hours Sebring race in 1969. Even when the car is only seen in the background, that would be interesting too. Regards Matthias
This new period picture of #00306 emerged, Franics thank you so much. Unfortuately we don`t know who took the picture and has the rights? Does anybody know the photographer? Regards Matthias Image Unavailable, Please Login
