Ferrari does this too. Remember the statements that the California was already sold out for two years when it was introduced? It's a marketing gimmick. But it's a double edge sword as it can keep some buyers from inquiring.

I can vouch that three dealerships in CA are indeed sold out for over a year. That being said, there are also some dealers out there trying to sell their demo cars over MSRP.

They're not outright lying. I think they just count up the number of orders, divide by the cars they plan on building per month, and get that "18 month" number. Different dealers will have different waitlists though. For the Ferrari California, one of my dealers (I live between two) had a 1 year waitlist, and the other dealer had an available build slot within the month. I suspect the same is going on with Lamborghini and Ferrari. Keep in mind, we have no idea what's going on in China, and there may be a ton of orders put out there (I think Lambo is going from 14 dealership to 20, each one probably allotted a dozen or so cars).

That's good, because it's going to cost me an arm and a leg just getting them to let me drive it off:p

And how would you have a warranty on a twin turbo r8?

You can get a fully warrantied supercharged R8 through Stasis at many Audi dealers. I realize this is not what you asked-but close.

Oh I know about the Stasis V10 but I certainly don't know of any TT setup with that warranty.

Heffner provides a 12 month/12,000mi warranty on their TT R8. Also, GMG is in late stage development of their TT R8.

Just because the R8 is TT and modified does not mean the car does not have a warranty. The manufacturer has to prove that the component added caused the failure should something in the car fail.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act

The Moss Warranty Act protects the consumer who wants to modify his/her car.

The car is as raw as you can get. The 631BHP, and retuned SMG really slams you back into the seat on every shift. It's about as violent a shift at full throttle as I have felt. Even more than the LP640. It's a great daily driver, this last year was quite fun withal the snow we had here in the NE LOL.

In a few years, I'll have back pain just getting in and out of the thing. No point in waiting, I mean what else are you going to spend the depreciation money on anyway.

The guys from AutoCar, who have tested both the 458 Italia and two days ago the Aventador, say that the Aventador is one beast of a machine, yet it isn't as refined and as quick as a 458 Italia. Take a look at the review on YouTube.

Must say that they tested the Aventador on a soaking wet track.

I think the looks of this car are excellent on the exterior. The interior to me is just not "over the top Lambo" to me. The steering wheel and the flip up cover for the start button are just corny, as are the TFT rev counter (someone's been looking at the Lexus).

The sound is great but the engine compartment looks like a kit car. The cross frames may make perfect engineering sense but to most it looks like an afterthought.

The Egear box is the biggest disappointment. For all the incredible technology and new stuff in it, to use a dated design gearbox seems like such a waste.

For a car made of CF and Aluminum, it seems a bit disappointing that it weighs the same as a BMW 3 series. That to me was the most shocking.

Anyone who buys this car is going to have great fun. But, it isn't perfect.

The gearbox seems like it was hyped up, everything I read about it prior to the car being shown was praising how quick it would be etc. Any figures on shift times?

Generally new outlandish cars grow on me, but it has some "kitcar" lines/qualities in it. Early days though I know I will change my opinion months down the track.

In the interest of not sounding like a hater I will say that it is very futuristic looking and typical Lamborghini :)

I'm going to have to agree with most of these things. The car is still amazing, and probably worth the $400k price tag to enough people for Lamborghini to sell them all, but it could have been so much more.

The weight loss of 200 lbs from the LP640 is dismal given how much time and resources they've put into carbon fiber research. The 458 lost 150 lbs from the F430 and still added a twin clutch gearbox, all done without that much carbon fiber.

The engine boosted to 700hp is great and all, but Ferrari did an 90 hp jump from the F430, and a 120 hp jump from the 612. If the 599 sees even just the same jump as the 612 saw, it will be hitting ~740 hp, and likely will lose as much weight or more as the 458 did, with a twin clutch gearbox and magnetic shocks for extra ride comfort... and direct injection...

I actually don't think they "skimped" on spending on their gearbox. From what I've read on the ISR transmission mechanics, it's substantially different from either a traditional single clutch, as well as a modern dual clutch. I suspect they spent comparable money to Ferrari on figuring out how to build it, but the end result is just worse.

The design I think is great, but that's totally subjective. I love the interior of the car, and the concept of the TFT dash is excellent, but the design does look like it came from a video game.

Overall, it'll depend on the overall experience. I'm not a big track person, and I usually don't use my road cars on the track anyway, so it doesn't need to be particularly fast, it just needs to make me feel like the world is exploding around me when I hit the throttle on an empty road, and not kill me on twisty backroads. A test drive will be the make-or-break for me.

I think he was referring to gear shifting when he made that comparison. Supposedly gear shifts are 50ms. From what I've heard and read about, Lamborghini wasn't wanting to go with the dual clutch system to save weight. So I guess, sacrificing seamless shifting in the name of weight savings. The ultra quick and smooth gear shifts appeals to many but there are still those who want the raw jolt of the gear shift which gives the driver more of the driving experience since it doesn't seem like the car is just doing everything by itself.

Always wait a year or 2 for Lambo's prices to tumble like a rock in a pond to buy them. Never buy them brand new.

Not to intervene, but I thought the Aventador's base price was around $380,000. I know it seems cheap for what you're getting but that's what I have read.

One thing everyone seems to be forgetting is that carbon is not just about the weight: the stiffness of the new tub increased by 150%. There is no aluminum technology that can match it. And stiffness affects a lot of things from safety to suspension precisions and hence feel. By the way, 458 is definitely NOT lighter than 430, except in the dreamworld of Ferrari press releases.
