I just looked and they are now $150.79ea. Every penny counts!

I a ree with you. When you can have a better part for our cars, it is certainly worth it in hassel reduction. I just thought that if the Kia's arworking well it might be a back-up or emergency solution during disasters like the wife losing her job!

Two and a half years covering about 12,000 miles - zero problems to date. All for about 8% of the cost of the ones that come in the pretty box with the horse on it.

Does anyone have an alternate replacement part for this one? I cannot imagine that this is a patent protected F-piece? Eurospares wants €650 (approx $1000). Any suggestions would be hoghly appreciated.

Do you guys recall that thread where some 348 owner hit a racoon and it fried his alternator? And he got a quote of something like $5,000 for a new alternator from Ferrari?

Well, check this out (from another thread)...under $600??? That is likely pounds, so that is approx $1200 if I am not mistaken...but even at $1,200, that is a far cry from $5,000

Keep in mind the $5k price tag was for the upgrade kit which includes the new Nippondenso alternator, mounting brackets, hardware, wiring connector and labor (labour, Mike :D). Still steep, especially when one can keep a stock of Delco spares for about $100/each.

My suggestion is to get the threads of the two holes where the thing connects, and then shop for connectors and adequate hose material. It's just a piece of hose with screw fittings on each end! Well, that is all it is, isn't it? Or does it have a magic vortexer that improves your mileage? :D

Can't agree more. I found a "new" used one and will look at rebuilding the old leaking one. I looked at some airplane suppliers and think that I can do what you propose. Thanks. I'll keep the info on this thread. I guess this doesn't happen very often as I find nothing on this in the search function.

    Thanks again.

I forgot about the vortexer for the mileage. I think I'll keep it that way!

Can't wait to see what you discover. Those hoses are kind of cool looking, so it would be really cool to find a way to build them yourself from reasonably priced parts.

Hello all, after spending a lot of time looking through books, websites and comparing parts on the shelf at an O'reily's Auto Parts, I have come up with a replacement for the receiver/dryer for the A/C systems on our 348's. It is only $10 plus $2 for a schrader valve for it. It is an almost exact replacement unit except for one thing. The service port on the new one is on the opposite side as the original. Since this port is just for connecting the pressure switch, it does not make any difference. The old unit has a built-in schrader valve for the pressure switch. The new unit only has a threaded hole so you must add the schrader valve. The thread for the service port is 1/8" pipe thread. So you will need a schrader valve with 1/8" male pipe thread. Here is the part number and specs for the valve below:

    Receiver/dryer: Manufacturer: 4 Seasons, Part number: 33363

    $10 at www.autopartsexpress.com

Schrader valve: 1/4 M flare x 1/8 MPT , many manufacturers. I found it made by a company called: Anchor, part number: 100-0029

Parker also makes this valve as well.

    Enjoy!! ;)

I found the seal kit for the A/C compressor on our 348's. The compressor is a Sanden SD709.

    Manufacturer: Murray

    Part number: 24031

Prices range around $18 to $25

Thanks guys! I am glad to help the Brotherhood. ;)

I do want to add something to my receiver/dryer post. The sight glass on the new unit is painted over. This is because you do not go by the sight glass when using r134a. If you are using R12, you just need to carefully scratch off the paint on the sight glass.
