Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

The question remains whether the menu will be:

A: Chicken Fried Crow with Miller-Lite
B: Crow Cordon Bleu with an English Ale

"When a prospective businessman is standing in front of you looking for investment in their idea, one of the most rookie mistakes they can make is to start going off on tangents about all the various revenue streams they will enjoy that require tasks and investment corollary to the core business. BIG reg flag."

Well, that's better than the old "X is a Y billion dollar market, so if we only get Z%...."

I'm not worried about financing, Tavo has said from the beginning that it's not an issue, and anyway BJ McCombs is involved. BJ can just stroke a check and make it all happy.

    ;)

This project (folly) was formally announced last May. Yes folks,... it has been a year.

Have any hard building materials been delivered to the site?

The COTA sign does not count,... which in hind sight should have been present within a week of announcing the track site. Makes one wonder if they were shopping around naming rights with no luck.

Tavo et al might as well be claiming this is a UFO Rest Stop at this point.

None of us on here knows enough about the specific market in Austin to make any valid comment on whether the facilities are "needed" or not.

I also don't know what "needed" means. Does it mean it will get used? Sure it will. Does it mean it will turn a profit from those things? If so, it's a long shot that all of these things would be profitable - and combined with putting them on the back of a $400mm money-losing F1 facility, it sounds like a real stretch of a business argument.

The proof will be in the pudding. If the facility gets built, and makes money and is successful, then I am proven wrong. I don't see that happening. I think enough investors are suspicious of the whole project that they aren't putting money in, which is why it's floundering - it's not fully financed yet, and there's a reason for that - and it's not any of the reasons being stated on this thread that are in favor of the track :)

You have first hand knowledge of the lack of finance, or are you just going off of conjecture because they don't have any buildings put up at the moment??

Which, they don't seem to even have the permits approved yet for putting up permanent structures because they are wanting to resolve the payment of road improvements before the city will approve the permits fully.....

I sleep in a tent ( so way less $$$$ there) but the last time I was in Indy (for F1) the rental car was like $700 for the weekend, as I recall it....and I did have to pay that lady for a tent site, but I helped her park cars so she made me a sweet deal.

Thanks for that link.....looks like they are primarily in the Dallas Market....we have made a few inroads into that area, but no presence there now. I used to live in this quaint B&B in Arlington.

We had an Austin storefront too for some time.

I was the Purchasing Agent and ran the warehouse operations, my and my giant Mercedes panel truck.
