Bart, I saw the funny things with it. I requested some more infos about 2 cars from the Factory. I think its unlikely that #026 was the Turin-Show-Car - but I may be wrong. We`ll see.... Ciao! Walter
Walter, you seem to be the go to guy for this information. I am looking to start my research on a '72Ghibli Spyder SS AM115/S49 1285. I don't mind doing the research but don't know the location to find the resources, in particular the previous owners and original color. Any help much appreciated. Photos to come soon.
This is all I have: AM115.S.49.1285 1972, gold/tan, wire-wheels 19?? with Al Riitchie -??/USA 19?? with MIDVO LEASING -??/USA 1992-94 with James Dawson -Columbus.OH./USA, 94 offered for sale asking $120.000, now yellow/creame 1996 with Budd Spratlen -Denver.CO./USA Can you fill some gaps? Ciao! Walter
I owned 1285 in the late 80's. Converted it to a 5 speed. Bought it at the top of the market and was on my knees thanking God the day I sold it. I only lost $150,000 on the car. Thats what happens when you buy at the top and sell at the bottom. Ciao, FGM

William, every good Ghibli would be a good buy! I don`t like on this one that it was repainted in a boring red. The car was delivered new in green which is a stunning color for a Ghibli and- its rare! I don`t know this car nor am I connected to it or the dealer to tell more about possible flaws etc.! Inspect the car there and if its a good one, then put the cash on his office desk...:) Ciao! Walter
Yes I dont like resale red. I live in the UK but have a lot of family on my wife's side in California so was thinking of getting a car there. I may only use it twice a year but there would be people to ensure it was properly cared for and it would save a great deal on car rentals for my visits and give me a lot of fun at the same time. If I got it it would go back to fully original but I have been burned a few times buying from the US even with inspections. Maybe better to wait for a concours winner that I know is 100%. However, the pictures look great.
Walter, Thank you for the information. The car is still in the Spratlen family and we are exploring some restoration options. I will be sure to be more active in the forums to gain valuable information from the other members and share pictures and discoveries as they come along. Portenos, thanks for sharing your information also. In my little experience the knowledge of a classic cars past is part of what makes them so special Thanks, David
A Ghibli SS poses in the new car museum in Athens. It sits a bit strange to my eyes... It says one of about 50 SS but couldn't verify it myself.
From the looks of first picture, the car seems to be sitting too high on its springs, especially in the rear. It needs to be lowered a couple of inches. IMO when they restored the car they either used the wrong springs, or perhaps some gas-pressured shocks were used that apply upward force on the chassis...?? Or something was reassembled wrong. Or a combination of all the aforementioned!
Hi, i grew up in a Town in Middle of Germany.... i know this Car! When i was young , about 17 i was interesting in this Car to buy.It was bought by the Owner of a extinguisher Company called Total in Ladenburg. I know the Owner because he played Tennis with my Dad. After he drive it a few time he decide to use it to make Advertising for his Company. So the Car would be reworked in his Company as a Safetycar for burning Cars on the Racetrack. After few Races it was placed on a podium in front of the Company. When i was 20 then it was still there , and when i have the Money together to buy it the Company was go into bankrupt and the inventory was gone even the Ghibli. In this Days my Dream of a own Maserati was born. have found this in the net.... http://bos-fahrzeuge.info/forum/index.php?page=Thread&postID=40375 last Time i was sitting in the Car it was ripped inside and was very rust outside.... I know someone who may knows what what happens to the Car and even the VIN... Roger
It was an absolute beautiful day in Southern California today...took the Ghibli out for a nice drive. The car never ceases to amaze me! The aesthetics and driveability are superb! Nice Ghibli. Question. How come you didn't join us with your Ghibli in Pismo for the Maserati rally? Just curious as there were no Ghiblis, Sebrings, Mexicos, Indys, Mistrals. What are the owners of these cars doing? and why do they not bring them out? This is a serious question. Is it the venue? Type of event? what would you like to see. I would like to hear from as many SoCal guys as possible on this as it is very strange that so few cars come out. Ciao, FGM
Roger, I called the ox-owner of the car last year and had also a conversation with one frm that company who used it as a kind of PR-car. According to him the Ghibli was scrapped in the mid-80s as it was totally rusted! If you could get the VIN of it - or even photos of the car - fantastic! Ciao! Walter
Hi Muiras, Did the same with my Ghibli SS of the same color but with beige "Magnolia" interior! Good fun! What make are these position /trafficator lights in your grill? Are they Carello's? Can you quote me the ref nr if any are on them? Thanks, Bart Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hello Walter, will ask my Uncles Friend when i see him next time. Hope he remember or still have some Material. Roger

Does anybody know some history of this beautiful celeste chiaro met. Ghibli SS 1878 now sitting in Paris and for sale on: http://www.carclassic.com/Maserati_Ghibli_5000_SS_Coupe_EJ67.html I am interested in this car and looked this up in Paris last weekend, but there is no history available. It has had a belgian owner and was restored 5 years ago ... Best
Well, I saw this car at the ARTCURIAL-auction in Paris this February. Although it was perfectly presented in their catalogue, I was much dissapointed when I saw it in reality. It needed at least 20.000 Euro to make it a perfect example. And the market reacted wisely -it was not sold. This is what I have: AM115.49.1878 1970, l.-blue-m./black, rocker-switches Sept. 1970 to Signore Masnata –Turino/I via dealer BORDHESE –Turino/I Later till 1982/3 with ARCHILLI-MOTORS -??/I 1982/3 with 3. owner, still in Italy May 15., 2004 BONHAMS auction –Monaco/MC, ns Later sold to Belgium, partly "restored" 4. Febr. 2011 ARTCURIAL-auction –Paris/F, ns Ciao! Walter
