We had to get a hex head 1 size larger, lathe the head bit by bit to get it to fit perfectly into that mishapen screw. Very time consuming and that screw was tighten like crazy which should not be the case. Shows the attitude if a mechanic can re-fit such a mishapen plug or use a ill fitting tool which caused the shape. As for the waterpump, it was supposed to be re-built at my 1st major as a precaution. I got the parts from Maranello. Lo and behold when it failed a year later, my dad pulled the pump apart and the parts meant to be fitted were not! So how to trust like that? We still have the old pump as a prime exhibit. Didn't pursue the case as I'll rather remember the good things done by the shop rather than the bad but also just move on from there. So it is easy for normal non tech minded customers to get taken in for a ride by these workshops.
U need a guy who knows carb tuning & yours is complicated with turbo. Perhaps it's time to go EFI to extract better figures & firing? Chong from Shell, opposite Autobahn does some of these but he may need to dial the guy who now runs the workshop in Munich Auto. Otherwise, there's an experienced guy who does carbs in Exquisite Mareques of KL.
Damn. Should name the fella. It could prove fatal for your engine if you were running fast & imagine the hassle if you were in Malaysia. Hope you had the new plug changed. Another way, if I were to lose that plug is screw a new bolt onto it then perhaps spot weld & unlock it. My guys in KL were quite attentive, when they did the belt job & pulled open the cam covers, gaskets were eaten away so they hand cut new & thicker gaskets to seal it as the cover was made in ALu, it warped over time by heat, causing leakage. Another way is to grind down the undersides of the cover to have a flatter fit. It works well now but we'll see. I have a PITA issue. I changed two new headlight motors recently & they still don't align. The left light is forever dipped even after I adjusted it. We should have the same system, does yours align when they pop up? I ordered a new clutch pack from Ricambi & the plate was too thick which made the gears unable to engage. So, we used back the orig. plate but I might have to drop the car in an Italian workshop or the factory while it's there
Just posted a new thread on my future relocation to Singapore, and the fundamental question of whether I should bring my F.California there. Any wisdom would be much appreciated!
Will tell you more in person. As for the headlights, yes it has always been aligned whether up or down like my ..... There is a little black knob next to the headlight either left or right. Try turning that knob to manually raise the lights and see if they align. Remember to turn off your battery before all that. If it fails, you will have to adjust the alignment although I have not seen the need or procedure for it in the workshop manual. A bit unusual for the pods to be misaligned though.
You got to pay taxes amounting to approx 2.3 times the declared value of the car which includes expenses in bringing it in and I believe the tax man will use his valuation rather than yours. On top of that, you got to buy that dreaded piece of paper which ranks as the most expensive paper currency in the world with a 10 yr lifespan. And only RHD is allowed unfortunately.
Is it actually possible to convert my carb to EFI? And who is able to do this? Sounds like a good idea. And what exactly would be involved in a project like this? ECU, injectors etc.... And Munich Auto....I am assuming this is the BNW M division right? Exquisite Marques is in KL?
so it's time for a confession .. & Mike this is especially for you!! the last couple of days I was fortunate enough to have the use of a California & I've got to admit it was an absolute pleasure to drive. Personally I found the steering too light, and the gear changes felt very Japanese, but overall it is an extremely easy & drivable car especially on our city roads. On the otherhand, the wife loved it! a straight replacement for the 430 it is not, and it does lack that certain "sports car" sensation & road presence, but that being said I concede it is a true Ferrari & worthy of wearing the prancing horse badge.
Damn. U can find ideas to that shaft of yours. Don't tell me u can hold a pail of water like what they said in some Indian Yoga? Ok back to the naughty lights. Good idea about switching the battery off! I never did that which explains why they never align so maybe I didn't need new motors! Geez...
Just google for ITB. There was a site that sells individual throttle bodies & you can hook them up with injectors of your choice + EFI. Hack, u can even have a customed ECU from one of the famous brands. Budget $4-8K depending on the level u'd want. The workshop manager who heads the M now used to work for AM & ex manager with Hongseh. He knows how to tune Carbs. Just visit Chong first or if you believe that Tony guy in East Coast rd. He said he tunes carbs too. If you want to keep it stock then run some tests & maybe all you need is simple tuning or buy a service kit if any. How many cylinders is your car & the brand of your carbs?
I was @ East Coast on Monday & there's this black roofed Cali that sounded pretty good when it pulled past towards city then when I go back to collect my car, he was just few lots away. I suppose the cabin build is high standard?
Does REDLINE gearoil make a lot of difference in the cold run? I read about it on 355 forum but hvn;t come across anyone that I know whom use it. Please let me know and perhaps I will use that on my next change Thanks, bro Peng
To be honest, my gear linkage was also out of proper alignment hence my difficulty in engaging reverse or 3rd when cold. All other gears had no problems. Now it has been re-aligned with blocks and bushings replaced (was a "might as well while you are under the car" sort of thing) and Redline instead of Motul inside. So not a fair comparision but with Redline, it shifts in all gears now. I'll put it more to the mis-alignment but you can try my car next time. BTW the Redline used was the 75-90NS as per FChatters' recommendations. S$20/quart as compared to US$14 on Amazon so reasonable. If you need contact, let me know. Dealer is at Joo Seng. Also sells Motul.
The rear seats are strictly for midgets and kids. Mike had a young man of ave height in there and he looked like an ostrich sticking his head out to look for lions!
My carbs are the original engine carbs. But now you have me interested go find out myself. My car is a 4cyclinder. Was reading up on EFI and came across this. Interesting read actually http://www.megasquirt.info/ Sorry for the noob question but whats a service kit?
hahaha yes you would know mate... Mate, the only changes were the wheels (yucks) and the aftermarket front bumper. The lights were just sticker jobs (thank goodness). Mate, Phil is loving his! Says its super practical and he reckons as fast as a 430!!! What say you?
yeah mate. but not tracking I think. No tires and no time to get the car alignment done or brakes bled. Unless I can achieve some magic tomorrow.
At one glance, looks like a link to some porn site! Service kits are usually kits whereby all the stuff you need for a minor/major service are inside, filters/plugs/gaskets/o-rings etc.
