My 2004 Porsche recommended 15k mile oil changes. My 2011 Pcar has 10k oil changes or once a year whichever comes first.

What is the recommended schedule for new Fcars? I change mine every 3k miles or once a year.

Assuming this is legit (and not excluded and disclaimed to death) I think this is brilliant marketing.

A week on this board will tell you that the #1 question from newbies is some flavor of "So how much will this cost me?"

The #2 question is some flavor of "Why does maintenance cost so much and is there any way to reduce that cost?"

This would appear to remove many of the unknowns of Ferrari ownership as well as making maintenance "free."

I made a pretty strong post last week that Ferrari was going to have to step up the plate soon in the reliability department. Glad to see I got results. ;)

    Thank you.

Are Ferrari going to do this in the US?

What are current Fcar maintenance schedules?

No word on it yet but I'd assume so b/c the US is a huge market for them. ??

    It's a world-wide program.

It's actually a brillant strategy. It answers the questions so many newbies ask: How much does it cost to maintain. The answer: Zero. Zero for you and Zero for the guy you're going to sell it to.

It's going to cost them very little but it will do two things. 1) help with new sales and 2) help with resales. For the amount of money it costs them, it's a bargain in the long run.

Ferrari is not doing anything because it wants to be "nice". It's doing it for their own benefit. If we also receive that benefit, so much the better.

When the consumer was paying for the scheduled service, BMW gave a specific interval. However, once BMW was paying (I'll use this term loosely) for the service, all of a sudden the intervals are extended.

There are many posts about long interval oil changes causing problems (cold climate areas) on the oil/vapor separator (PCV valve, or whatever else they're calling this thing), mustard colored gunk/sludge underneath the oil fill cap which is probably found elsewhere. If this fails it could possible hydraulically lock the motor.

For the money paid for 7 quarts and an oil filter with myself doing the service, I say it money wisely spent.

Although, I understand that everyone wants to make a buck, I hope Ferrari's plan is a bit more sensible.

Totally right. It will help the people who are new to Ferrari who, like you just said, don't know how much to pay for maintenance.

You aren't forced to follow the factory recommendations. When I had BMW's where I felt the interval was too long, such as the M cars, I just paid for an extra change between the factory ones. Considering the number of annual miles the typical Ferrari gets, I doubt this will be an issue.

I pay for every other oil change on my BMW. May be unneeded but its peace of mind.

They did the same with the 348/8-cylinder models, until a service bulletin came out later on that stated "3-years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first".

I doubt there will be a similar service bulletin in this case, though.

OK, what about the ones that ordered in say December 2010 and it won't arrive until say the end of this month. I saw one post where someone was saying it is on delivery dates and not necessarily on order dates. I am freaking out about this.

BMW's service plan does not cover just oil changes (15,000 miles or once a year) it also covers brake pads, brake rotors, windshield wiper blades and fluid. It covers everything but rotation ballance and alignment. Hopefully Ferrari will do it the same way.
